ХХ Х Конвенція СУА 81 Traditional welcoming of guests with Ukrain- ian bandura music and folk songs. From left: Alla Kutsevitch and Ludmyla Hrabovska. ULANA MUSIJ ZINYCH, FIRST VICE PRESIDENT OF UNWLA According to the UNWLA By - laws, the First Vice President shall carry out the duties of the Pres- ident in her absence or in the event of the President’s incapacity to serve. The Vice President also follows the instructions and directives of the UNWLA President to assist the latter in her work as required. Over the last three years I have performed these duties successfully. I have kept in touch with the UNWLA President regularl y, regardless of time of day. The beginning of my term was marked by a visit to L’viv and Kyiv in August of 2011, together with the UNWLA President, Vice President for Public Relations Lidia Bilous, and Archives Committee Chair Olya Drozdowycz. This visit included many important meetings and events: In L’viv I delivered a presentation at the WFUWO Congress . During the trip we met wit h representatives of the UCU to discuss a prospective joint project — a Women’s Studies Program at the UCU. Those were the early steps of our Lectureship, which has been successfully launched since then. We also had a meeting with Dr. Vasyl Savchyn, head of the Burn Unit of L’viv hospital #8. The hospital has received support from the Social Welfare Fund of the UNWLA, and our cooperation will continue. In L’viv we had a chance to meet with members of the Soyuz Ukrainok of Ukraine and together we celebrated t he 90th anniversary since the founding and the 20th anniversary since the revival of this organization in Ukraine. Following our visit to L’viv, our delegation participated in the annual Congress of the UWC in Kyiv. There I delivered an additional stateme nt to supplement the UNWLA annual report, written by our President, and presented the book A Candle in Remembrance to the president of the Ukrainian World Congress. This monograph by Prof. Valentyna Borysenko based on the life - stories of survivors of the H o- lodomor - Genocide of 1932 - 1933 was translated from Ukrainian into English thanks to the efforts of the UNWLA. Many university libraries in the United States and abroad have received this book. After we returned home, my work moved to more routine tasks: I participated in and on multiple occasions convened teleconferences with Chairs of UNWLA Committees and presidents of Regional Councils. We tried to hold these conferences quarterly to main- tain good communication between the UNWLA Executive Board and the Na tional Board. I solicited and selected works of art for the cover page of Our Life . Last year we modified our se- lection criteria. In addition to the Ukrainian - American female artists, we now accept works of Ukrainian artists who reside in the United State s or who have held exhibits in the USA. This change had to be adopted because we were not receiving enough submissions from female artists of Ukrainian descent. I am sincerely grateful to all the artists who helped us make our cover more attractive and col orful. I assisted the editors of Our Life in proofreading ar- ticles for the magazine and submitted several articles to Our Life and The Ukrainian Weekly . My submissions included the article “ A Truly International D ay at the Ukrainian Institute ” about the reception for the wives of UN ambassa- dors, which was hosted by Natalia Sergeyeva, the wife of the Permanent Representative o f Ukraine to the UN. The recep- tion took place at the Ukrainian Institute of New York. The UNWLA was among the organizations that helped prepare the event.
