ХХ Х Конвенція СУА 71 and photos recently obtained from intelligence archives in Eastern Europe and post - Orange Revolution Ukraine. This landmark conference was by invitation only; however, on the second day of the conference, the Ukrainian Museum of New York hosted a “Tribute to the Pioneers of Holodomor Awareness” and the UNWLA was reco gnized as one of these pioneers ! I had the honor of addressing this prestigious group of attendees with a short h istory of the UNWLA’s efforts — both during the actual tragedy of the Great Fam- ine and since . Issues of the co mmemorative Our Life edition and copies of Candle of Remembrance (an oral his- tory of the Famine) were made available for the public at this event. As I stated in my address, “... The UNWLA archives are clear evidence of a sustained and unified relief effort a nd the determination and persistence of the UNWLA in the face of indifference. (...) As Ukrainian women, as mothers, and as members of the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America, an organization which binds genera- tions and immigrations of women of Ukra inian descent, we will continue to remember the victims of the Ukrainian Genocide of 1932 - 33. Our commitment to be the vehicle of awareness and education about the Ukrainian Genocide has been steadfast and will continue to be so in the future!” On Decembe r 4, 2013, UNWLA Honorary Presidents Anna Krawczuk and Iryna Kurowyckyj and I, along with several other UNWLA mem- bers, attended the Groundbreaking Ceremo- ny of the Holodomor Memorial in Washing- ton, D.C. commemorating the victims of the Famine - Genocide. Its architect and design- er, Larysa Kurylas, is a UNWLA member - at - large, and we congratulate her for her profound, yet simple expression of the Fam- ine’s loss of life. This event was sponsored by the Embassy of Ukraine and the U.S. Committee for Ukrainian Holodo mor - Genocide Awareness, 1932 - 33, of which the UNWLA is a member. It is expected that the Memorial will be completed in the fall of 2014. It is important that we all plan to be present on this historic occasion. At the Holodomor Memorial Groundbreaking Ceremony: Lidia Slysh, Maria Polanskyj, Zoriana Haftkowycz, Marianna Zajac, Anna Krawczuk, and Oksana Steranka . The Ukrainian Museum As founders of the Ukrainian Museum, the UNWLA continues to have great responsibilities in this important institution. T he UNWLA holds 51% of the voting body and the UNWLA President, fol- lowing Museum by - laws, is automatically the First Vice President of the Museum. As such, I have partic- ipated in all monthly Museum Executive Board meetings (either in person or via conferenc e call) as well as annual Board meetings held in June. I would like to thank former Museum President Mykola Darmo- chwal (2011 - 2012) for his focus on Museum organization issues and emphasis on evaluating the Muse- um’s future goals and objectives. As UNWLA Pre sident, I thanked Mr . Darmochwal at the June 2013 Board meeting for strengthening the work of the Museum’s committees and documenting required poli- cies for the proper functioning of the Museum. Professor Renata Holod, newly elected in June 2013, brings in a new perspective and believes that the Museum should challenge itself in order to grow and improve. As she stated, the Ukrainian Museum is “not only a folk art or fine art museum, but a museum of the history of Ukraine.” We wish Mr. Darmochwal good health and much success in his future endeav- ors and wish Professor Ho lod much satisfaction and success during her term as President. On April 27, 2012, a very special non - Museum event was hosted by the Ukrainian Museum. This was a by - invitation - only event, and Board members were fortunate to be invited. The Ukrainian Counc il of Churches and Religious Organizations of Ukraine had just arrived as a united group from the Canadian
