70 ХХ Х Конвенція СУА Awards Presented to Non - UNWLA Members September 23, 2011 – Boston, MA An ev ening of appreciation was organiz ed by Rev . Fr . Jaroslav Nalysnyk, Pastor of Christ the King Ukrainia n Catholic Church in Boston, for Drs. Gennadiy Fuzaylov and Daniel Driscoll of Doctors Collaborating to Help Children; and Dr. Vasyl Savchyn , Director of Pediatr ic Burn Unit at L’viv Hospital No. 8. The UNWLA bestowed certificates of re cognition to these new UNWLA partners. (Please se e the section “Project to Aid Pediatric Burn Vic- tims in Ukraine” for details on this partnership.) November 4, 2011 – Ukrainian Institute of America, New York City On Novemb er 4th, the Ukrainian Institute of America hosted the New York City premiere of the film Genocide Revealed . This multi - award winning documentary was directed and produced by Yurij Luhovy and debuted in 200 9 in the Ukrainian language as Okradena Zemlya . The female voice - overs in the English version were done by the well - known actress Jill Hennessy . The UNWLA, as a Ukrainian - Ameri can women’s organization, presented a certificate of appreciation to Ms. Hennessy for her com- mitment and for finding the time in her busy schedule to take on this emotional assignment. Ms. Hen- nessy’s maternal grandmother was Ukrainian and holds a very spec ial place in the heart and memories of the actress. The premiere was very well attended and I was able to remind the audience and Ms. Hen- nessy exactly what the UNWLA’s role has been regarding the Famine - Genocide. Ms. Hennessy was very touched by the recog n ition received from the UNWLA. The UNWLA also gave the director/producer Yurij Luhovy a certificate of appreciation for his determination in producing an English version , as surely this will pave the way for this painful topic's acceptance into the mainstr eam. HOLODOMOR UNWLA members of the New York area, including my- self, annually attend Holodomor remembrance services held at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City. These were held on No- vember 19, 2011; November 17, 2012; and November 23, 2013 and are always well attended. 2013 marked the 80 th anniversary of the Great Famine in Ukraine; services and concerts were held in November through- out the diaspora. On this occasion, the UNWLA reprinted the Ho- lodomor commemorative issue of Our Life originally prin ted ten years ago. The issue was given to Regional Council Presidents at the 2013 annual National Board meeting in order to be shared with our American communities throughout the United States and once again remind our neighbors of this tragic period in Uk raini- an history. In November of 2013, a conference entitled “Taking Measure of the Holodomor” featuring over 50 of the most knowl- edgeable Holodomor scholars in the world was held in New York City. This was a historic gathering indeed and addressed the fun- damental questions about the tragedy based on new documents
