ХХ Х Конвенція СУА 67 procedures. During these annual clinics, lectures are also arranged for Ukrainian burn care physicians. As you will read in our Social Welfare Chairperson’s report, equipment and supplies have s ince been pur- chased for Dr. Savchyn’s Burn Care Unit and a medication reserve fund has been established with Soyuz Ukrainok of L’vivshchyna. (Should parents not be able to afford medications for their children who are being treated at the Burn Care Unit, D r. Savchyn puts in a request to Soyuz Ukrainok .) In addition to the direct care for young burn victims, a Learning Center, funded by the UNWLA, was opened in March of 2012 in the L’viv Hospital. This center will allow for long - distance consultations and will serve as a well - equipped facility for long - distance learning of the most current burn care techniques. Presently, a prevention campaign is also being developed since the incidence of burns in Ukraini- an children is very high. Our collaboration with Dr. Fuzaylov (Doctors Collaborating to Help Children) and Dr. Savchyn of Hospital No. 8 has also, as mentioned above, brought children to Boston for cost - free treatment. (Nastya Ovchar, for example , has been back to Boston several times but Drs . Fuzaylov and Driscoll have also been treating her in Ukraine .) Due to the present turmoil in Ukra ine, this priceless col- laboration is on hold but we are confident that, whatever the final outcome, the fate of injured children will remain important and allow for further cooperation. Digitalizing of Our Life and UNWLA Convention Books The detailed and rich history of our organization is clearly documented on the very pages of our official publica- tion, Our Life, and in the convention books of the 30 UNWLA conventions. This year we ha ve reached milestones — the 70th anniversary of the first edition of Our Life and the 30th Con- vention book. In October of 2011, serious discussions, led by our Webmaster, Zoriana Haftkowycz, began with Ihor Pylyp- chuk, the information technology specialist who would, in the end, bring this important digitalizing project to completion. In addition to Ms. Haftkowycz and Mr. Pylypchuk, I must give due credit to Mykola Darmochwal and Laszlo Szijj who ad- vised on technical issues in this lengthy process. ALL issues of Our Life and all convention books can now be found on our websi te and are in “searchable” format. This accessibility makes it possible for researchers interested in the women’s movement here in the United States to have 70 years of infor- mation at their fingertips. We credit the number of “hits” on our website ( www.unwla.org ) to this new addition. In an article entitled “Why We Should Belong to the UNWLA” (April 1944 issue of Our Life ), Olena Shtohryn, the then Vice President of the UNWLA, wrote, “ ... we are learning to be tolerant, to agree with the majority — that is, the real stuff of democracy. We are developing in ourselves per- severance and constancy, we are tempering our character. These are the moral characteristics which become ours through our work in the UNWLA.” As she further added, “...in order for any organization to exist, devel- op, and fulfill its mission, its members must BELIEVE that it is necessary and important...” Clearly, our membership did and does BELIEVE, and we cherish the UNWLA camaraderie which we have all devel- oped ! We invite you to browse the pages of Our Life and the convention books to feel the dedication and inspiration of our pre decessors. This is your history! !! The 70 th anniversary of our treasured magazine Our Life The year of 2014 marks the 89th anniversary of the UNWLA, which has had many and various accomplishments during its very full history. One of the more important UNWLA achievements has been
