262 ХХ Х Конвенція СУА Eva Reinhardt, o ur instructor in wreath - making, holds a newly created spring wreath. Mrs. Vera Pestyk conducting baking classes. found this artistic endeavor to be a successful fundraiser for our organization. Our branch members enjoy entertaining and socializing. Over the past years, we have been cooking up great breakfasts, making delicious strawberry and cheese nalysnyky , and continuing to perpet- uate the Ukrainian Christmas t radition by making vooshka . Dr. Chrystyna Rakoczy - Kostrycky and her husband organized an evening for our branch to make and sell dozens of vooska . Those purchasing the vooshka were grateful for this time - saving fundraiser. Our branch had enjoyed the evenin g and learned much about making this traditional Ukrainian Christmas dish. Finding a good recipe is easy; however, making sure that the recipe is prepared correctly is an- other matter. Mrs. Vera Pestyk, may she rest in peace, was our cook and baker extraord inaire and volun- teered to hold baking classes for us. Everyone brought the required ingredients and specific baking uten- sils. Step by step, she showed us those “secret” touches that assured a successful end product. The cookies that we baked for the Christ mas season and at other times were delicious. Mrs. Pestyk and her sincere, warm smile are greatly missed. The 1st Art Show sponsored by our branch was held on October 26, 2013. Our goal was to put a spotlight on women in our community and their artistic talents. Twenty - two artists participated in this event displaying a wide range of art pieces. There were paintings created in oil, with acrylics, and even on silk. Tole painting was done on wood focusing on the Christmas theme, and some ceramic pieces we re painted using the Petrykivka and Trypillian motifs. Photographs of nature and other subjects were displayed around the room. One table held beautiful pysanky while another showed a beautiful selection of beadwork, which included gerdany . On display were a korovai and other baked goods. Embroidery, glass art, and blown glass pieces were exhibited throughout the room, and one member put on display the detailed, intricate work found in her scrapbooking. We even had a published author entertain the guests by reading from her book. We enjoyed seeing the intricate art pieces, learning more about our friends and their talents, and sharing this artistic evening with others. Our 1st Art Show and fundraiser supporting the UNWLA Scholarship Fund was a success thanks to the dedication and hard work of the committee members―Maria Picun, Marta Kozlov, Sonia Rudolph, Joan Grayson, Ginna Milinovich, Joan Myer - Valenti, and Olya Czerkas — as well as other branch members and participating artists. Participating UNWLA and community members during the 1st Art Show held by Branch 124 in St. Petersburg, Florida.
