208 ХХ Х Конвенція СУА sian Studies, spoke to us about “Human Rights in Rural Post - Soviet Ukra ine.” o Anastasia Tkach, an Honors undergraduate at UM, told us about her summer internship at the Verkhovna Rada . o Oksana Malanchuk, our member and Research Investigator at UM, conducted a survey among our group examining our ideas about “ w ho is Ukrainian.” o Two pysanky events took place: one was a workshop by our member Ulana Kushner; and another was a PowerPoint presentation and hands - on demonstration at Ella Sharp Museum in Jackson, MI, by Chris Eberhart, son of our Treasurer, Elayne Eberhart. o Group travels were organized by Paranka Mazurek. In 2011, we attended the 50th Anniversary of St. Michael’s Parish in Chicago where Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk led the festivities. In 2012, we made a trip to the Toronto International Ukrainian Festival to celebrate our culture with music, danc- ing, arts, and food with Ukrainians from around the world. o Ulana Kushner, our Detroit Regional Council Liaison, received a Distinguished Service Award from the Detroit - Windsor Ukrainian Graduates Association. She also organized and put together programs for numerous events at the Ukrainian Cultural Center, among them a lecture series which was very popular. Ann Arbor was twice represented in a “featured persons” event (Yevhen Humesky and My- chajlo Ciapa); and another time, on the topic of the “Celebration of Ukrainian Women,” Branch 50 President Oksana Posa gave a presentation about Marusia Beck, a Detroit Ukrainian - American activ- ist, and our member Jessica Zychowych spoke about the Gender Museum in Kharkiv, Ukraine. 3. Social Welf are $ 300 is sent annually to a Ukrainian orphanage in Prudentopolis, Brasil. Ulana Kushner helped to energize our Social Welfare activity by procuring large quantities of high - quality school uniforms that were sent by the Detroit Regional Council to vario us orphanages, with larger sizes sent to elderly care homes in Ukraine. Our branch alone packed and paid shipping for ten large parcels. Oksana Posa and Paranka Mazurek regularly visit branch members who cannot attend the meetings as well as other ailing Ukrainian community members. In response to the Maidan Humanitarian Aid initiative, we raised in December of 2013 $1,175, which was sent to the UNWLA Headquarters. We continue a monetary and letter - writing campaign in sup- port of peaceful resolution of the current crisis in Ukraine. 4. Hospitality Two events are held every year for extended family and friends to promote the UNWLA image, to edu- cate others about the significance of our work, and to solicit funds from outside for our objectives. One is Kolyada , where we collect funds for the UNWLA Scholarship Program; another is a picnic at Dibrova Lake where we usually have a short program. We want to express our deep gratitude to the hostesses of our Kolyada — Oksana Malanchuk and Natalie Grossman — for opening their homes to an elaborate Christmas Eve potluck and to Paranka Mazurek, Hospitality Chair, for her relentless organizing efforts. Oksana Posa, President
