ХХХ Конвенція СУА 177 I advised presidents of Branches - at - Large about news updates and decisions made during periodic con- ference calls with UNWLA Executive Board, Presidents of Regional Councils, and the Liaison for BAL . During Ukrainian art exhibits, I informed the local Florida public about the Ukrainian Catholic Universi- ty and its goals and the UNWLA Social Service programs , which care for widows and orphans and pro- vide scholarships in Ukraine. I notified the National Board and BAL that the Ukrainian Museum is listed in the “Time - Out - New York's” list of NYC's Best International Societies and Museums. I sent a congratulatory letter to Mykola Darmochwal, President of the Board of Trustees. I informed and followed up with each BAL to file an IRS e - postcard each year, to keep the confirmation for their records, and provided IRS webs ites. I forwarded the President’s newsletter from Branch 124 to all BAL. The newsletter includes many great ideas from President Olya Czerkas to keep in touch as well as various fundraising projects . I apprised Branches 14, 56, and 124 about Masha Archer’s Exhibits in Sarasota, FL, and Atlanta, GA. Several members and non - members went to the exhibits. Ms. Archer was very appreciative that UN- WLA members supported her art; she proved to be a very charming, very Ukrainian artist, and it was a great ex perience for all who met her. Based on my own witness to multiple “dumpings” for Florida, I wrote an article about “The Dumping of Ukrainian Treasures” i n the June 2012 issue of Our Life and in a “Letter to the Editor” of The Ukrainian Weekly . Responses from UNWLA Members and Ukrainian Diaspora regarding “Dumping” resulted in many discussions and ideas how to handle this issue both in the USA and Canada. The possibility of UNWLA and Ukrainian Museum involvement will be discussed in the future. Success! I n May 2013, I visited the Ukrainian Catholic University (UCU) and met with various chairs of the UCU and wrote in the 2013 July/August issue of Our Life about the uniqueness of the UCU as an “Oasis” of education and Western values in Ukraine. Advised the UNWLA Executive Board and members about the successes of Branch 38’s members, namely about Maria Sutton, who wrote The Night Sky: A Journey from Dachau to Denver and Back , and about an exhibit of Ukrainian Art in 2013 by the Figlus Family in Wheat Ridge, CO. In October 2013, I attended the exhibit “ An Evening of Culture, Art and Friendship” together with Ann Marie Susla, President of Branch 56, Roxolana Yarymovych, MAL Ch airperson, and members of Branch 56. We were welcomed by Olya Czerkas, President of Branch 124, which organized the exhibit. Organized a trip of Branch 56 members to the Davis Art Center for “Raising the Bar,” an art exhibit in Ft. Myers, FL, to view art w orks by artists who are also attorneys. Patricia Zalisko, a member of Branch 56, was one of the exhibitors. The story of her exhibit was detailed in the October 2013 issue of Our Life. In November 2013, I held a seminar in North Port, FL, for members and guests of Branch 56 on availa- ble medical coverage in 2014 for Medicare eligible seniors. Based on my experience as a Certified Em- ployee Benefits Specialist, I explained in layman’s terms the various Medicare, Medicare supplements, Plan D, and Medicare Adv antage plans. The seminar was very successful, and I provided handouts of the presentation to attendees and the community members. An article about this event was published in the December 2013 copy of Our Life . For the March 2014 issue of Our Life , I wro te an article discussing what to do in several tax situations. In this article, I also included suggestions on how to prepare correct and complete tax returns. Member of the By - laws Committee Conferred and emailed with the President of BAL and members o f the By - laws Committee for ideas and suggestions for a presentation to the membership at the XXX Convention. One of the most important changes suggested by the committee was to move “Parliamentary Procedure” to the beginning of UNWLA by - laws. Suggestions for the Future: Include a “Senior” page in Our Life with news, information, concerns, and ideas for seniors. Establish a member database to include their special training and special interests. Orysia Nazar Zinycz, Liaison for Branches - at - Large
