172 ХХ Х Конвенція СУА NEW YORK CENTRAL REGIONAL COUNCIL In the past three years I have traveled many times to all four branches in the Central New York Regional Council. Branch 34 ( President Oksana Ciupka ) is located in Cohoes, NY. Ms. Ciupka has been president for the past year and is continuing the g ood work of former president Mrs. Maria Maciuk. The branch has brought in five new members. They hold a coffee hour in the ha ll of Sts. Peter an d Paul C hurch, visit the elderly and the sick, and also help tend to the graves of deceased members. Branch 62 (President Nadia Rajsz ) is located in Glen Spey, NY. They are the new addition to our Regional Council and have a membership of 28 ladies now. T hey have acquired four new members. They ho ld Easter and Christmas Bazaars , at which they sell delicious Ukrainian food and enjoy visiting with the many locals who attend. Branch 95 ( President Eva Panchyshyn ) of Kerho nks on - Poughkeepsie, NY, has a membership of 26 . The members of this branch also take part in Easter and Christmas Bazaars held by the local Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church. Branch 95 tries to visit craft fairs and , in conjunction with the Dutchess C ounty Arts Council, takes part in Beacon Days. These Days allow members to display beauti- ful Ukrainian embroidery and show people how to make Ukrainian pysanky . Through these activities, they are able to raise awareness about the Ukrainian cultural h eritag e. Branch 99 of Watervliet, NY, is the region's largest branch with 30 members listed, and has Luba Kushnir Dryansky as its p resident. This branch participate s in St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church's Easter and Christmas Bazaars, and at Christ mas, its members go caroling. Branch 99 is also the only branch in t he region to have a svitlychka nursery school to promote Ukrainian culture and language. They also take a very active part in the “Festival of Nations” selling Ukrainian embroidery, books, ceramics, and food. While most of the branches have acquired new members, they have also lost so me: some have moved away, gone into nursing homes, or have passed away. These UNWLA ladies will never be forgot- ten because they are the ones who have help ed lay a foundation for our current work for the benefit of Ukraine, its people, and its culture. Our current members are not to be outdone and are deeply committed to UNWLA social welfare programs, which we support through many fundraisers . I am proud to say that I have taken part in all annual meetings, all Natio nal Board Meetings in New York, and all tele conference calls . I have also attended the Holodomor commemorative services held in St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City. Maria Z. Cade, President of New York Central Region New York Central Regional Council would like to wish the UNWLA a most successful Convention! To the newly elected officials: may God be with you as you continue the outstanding work of our wonderful organization. M nohaya l ita to all!
