170 ХХ Х Конвенція СУА NEW ENGLAND REGIONAL COUNCIL Officers of the New England Regional Council of the UNWLA (l - r): Kate ryna Tanchyn, Vice President; Anna Salemme, Treasurer; Gloria Horbaty, President; and Romana Thibodeau, Secretary . The UNWLA New England Region is comprised of three branches : Branch 73 of Bridgeport, Branch 106 of Hartford, and Branch 108 of New Haven , with a total of 60 members. Regional Council o fficers during 2011 - 12 were President Zoryana Mishtal (Br. 106), Vice Presi- dent Halyna Shulewsky (106), Secretary Valentyna Chudowska (106), Treasurer Ina Stachiw, and Archi- vist Orysia Mandicz (Br. 108). The newly elected officers of the R egion al Council for 2012 - 2013 were President Gloria Horbaty (Br. 108), Vice President Olia Lisowich (Br. 73), Secretary Roma Thibodeau (Br. 108), Treasurer Anna Salemme (Br. 108), and Archivist Areta Heran (Br. 108). As was decided at the annual meeting in March 2013, a ll previous year’s officers would continue in 2013 - 2014, except the previous vice president was replaced by Kataryna Tanchyn (Br. 73). The Regional Council organizes an annual “Den Soyuz i anky” social/cultural event for members and guests, which usually tak es place in the summer. Themes for the socials have included Ivana Kupala and Hahilky . Branches support the themes by preparing and making presentations on the occasion. A splendid smorgasbord is provided by the branches and everyone enjoys the presentatio ns, food, sing - alongs , and camaraderie at the event. Branches have collaborated on , supported , and participated in the first joint social welfare project, Caring and Assistance for the Elderly, in Ivano - Frankivsk, where we have be en assigned a hospice. Par ticipation in t he UNWLA Scholarship Program is also sustained by each branch as well as by individual members. All branches held their annual meetings with a regional officer in attendance. The annual regional meetings have been held as well. Branches repo rt on their accomplishments and each regional officer, including the president, accounts for their progress during the year . T he Regional Council president then reports on her participation in the National Board Meetings . Also in attendance at some of thes e meetings were Mariya Andriyovych, Executive Board Member - at - Large, who gave her reflections, and UNWLA 1 st Vice President, Ulana Zinych. Each annual meeting ends with a lovely reception prepared by the of- ficers and local branch members. Branch 73 of the UNWLA has 19 members and encompasses the Bridgeport area in Fairfield County. This group is lead by President Kate ryna Tanchyn. Their meetings are held in the church hall of the Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church in Bridgeport. This group, which celebrated their 50 th anniversary in 2012, organizes many dinners , including the annual Mother/Father
