14 ХХ Х Конвенція СУА in Bolekhiv district; Our Life , January 2014, p. 7) Today Our Life publishes engaging and thought - provoking material from Ukra ine about Ukraini- an heroines who fought for the independence of their country as members of the Ukrainian Insurgent Ar- my (UPA). Going through the challenging times of revival and transition, Ukraine has needed our support and we did not fail to offer it. The UNWLA members have given generous donations to provide support to orphans and “grandmothers,” survivors of the Chornobyl nuclear meltdown, victims of floods and oth- er natural disasters, etc. A list of all contributors to the Social Welfare Fund of the UNWLA is published in every issue of Our Life . Another priority of the UNWLA, central to its work from the early days, is education of the younger generation. Through the UNWLA Scholarship Fund, Ukrainian women in America helped thou- sands of Ukrainian ch ildren in Brazil, Argentina, Poland, and Ukraine to receive an education. Our Life runs a regular column to inform its readers about the news from our Scholarship office ( «Новини зі Стипендійного бюра СУА» ). The magazine also publishes the names of donors who contribute to the UNWLA Endowment Fund for the Women’s Studies Lectureship at the Ukrainian Catholic University in L’viv, Ukraine. It is one of our most recent successful projects and we introduced a new column, “News from the UCU,” to offer our reader s updates on this Lectureship program. The response of UNWLA members in late 2013 to the appeal of the Executive Committee to of- fer humanitarian aid to the revolutionary Maidan was commendable. The editorial board of Our Life con- tinues to receive informati on from Regional Councils and Branches about their fundraising efforts for the Maidan. The January 2014 issue of Our Life discusses the recent events in Ukraine, where people stood to defend their rights and interests, insisting that they were the ultimate source of power in their land. Those days brought us anxiety and optimism, and Ukrainians around the world felt united and empowered to resist the criminal regime. Our Life continues to feature articles about prominent female figures of the past and pres ent. On its pages, one will find materials about Ukrainian culture and language, customs and traditions, upbring- ing and education of children, interviews with interesting people and book reviews, medical advice and recipes. Two pages in every issue are res erved for our youngest readers. All of my predecessors in the office of the editor - in - chief of Our Life deserve special credit for their tireless work that allowed our magazine to thrive through the decades. They are Claudia Olesnicky (1944 - 1946), Olena Lo tocka (1946 - 1960), Lidia Burachinska (1961 - 1973), Juliana Starosolska (1973 - 1984; 1987 - 1990), Olha Liskiwska (1985 - 1986), Iryna Chaban (1990 - 2008), and Tamara Stadnychenko (2008 - 2011). It is hard to disagree with the words of UNWLA President Marianna Zajac : “The success and longevity of Our Life can be attributed to its committed and focused editors... Every editor brought her own talents and vision to the magazine, enriching the magazine’s pages with her original ideas.” ( Our Life , January 2014, p. 16) For over two decades, before launching its own quarterly, Ukrainian Woman in the World , the World Federation of Ukrainian Women’s Organizations, co - founded by the UNWLA, had its own pages in Our Life . Even today, Our Life continues to update its readers on th e work that the WFUWO carries out in the United Nations, since a large part of that work is done by members of the UNWLA. Recently the archives of Our Life have been digitalized and can now be accessed via our website : www.unwla.org . Many researchers in Ukraine have an opportunity to use the unique materials f rom our magazine for their work on the history of the Ukrainian women’s movement, which, by the way, marks its 130th anniversary this year. The UNWLA would not be a ble to carry out a project like Our Life successfully without the tire- less work of each and every of its members, from the President and the Executive Committee to the members of Regional Councils and Branches. Together they create a fantastic women’s orga nization, which is preparing to celebrate its 90th birthday next year. I send my heartfelt greetings to all the readers and contributors of Our Life ! Let u s continue this work and ensure that Our Life celebrates its golden jubilee in 30 years! Lidia Slysh, Editor - in - Chief, Our Life
