Through the efforts of the World Federation of Ukrainian Women’s Organizations (WFUWO) a roundtable discussion was held at the United Nations in New York City. The topic was “Mobilizing Outrage: Joining Forces to Combat Gender Violence in Ukraine.” The organizers and speak- ers were Dr. Martha Kichorovs ka - Kebalo and Valentyna Bodnarovska. I attended this presentation with M. Orysia Jacus, UNWLA Scholarship Program Treasurer, and Ella Lamakh from Kyiv, Ukraine. May 2013 . The Groundbreaking ceremony of the future UAV National Monument, honoring all Ameri- can veterans of Ukrainian heritage who served in the US Armed Forces, took place in South Bound Brook, NJ, on St. Thomas Sunday. Together with M. Orysia Jacus and other committee members I at- tended this event. June 2013 . I traveled privately to Tallinn , Estonia, where I renewed my acquaintance with the President of the Union of Ukrainian Women in Estonia ( Soyuz Ukrainok of Estonia), Lilia Tsikalska. I had the unique opportunity to tour the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and the Ukrainian Cultural Cent er with the founder and Director of the Center Anatolij Ljutjuk and his son, Nestor. Anatolij is also a State Artist of Ukraine and an award - winning Estonian designer and builder of Estonia’s Ukrainian Catholic Church. The Ukrainian Center includes a Sunda y school, a library, and a museum. I am immensely grateful to Mr. and Mrs. Tsikalsky for their warmhearted Ukrainian hospitality. September 2013 . Together with my sister Taissa Meleshko, UNWLA Member - at - Large from Apopka, FL, I met with a few members of UNWLA Branch 56 on the premises of St. Andrew’s Ukrainian Ortho- dox Church in North Port, FL. We were warmly greeted by the President of Branch 56 Anna Maria Susla, Lida Boyko, Branch 56 Scholarship Chairwoman, and Olya Hron. With great pleasure, I reca ll my visit with UNWLA Honorary Member and long - time sponsor, Dr. Ivanna Ratych. While in Apopka, FL, I spoke with parishioners of St. Mary Protectress Ukrainian Catholic Church about the activities of the UNWLA Scholarship Program. I had a telephone conv ersation with the President of UNWLA Branch 124 in St. Petersburg, FL, Olya Czerkas. Unfortunately, because of inclement weather, I was not able to meet with her. November 2013 . UNWLA Scholarship Committee treasurer, M. Orysia Jacus, met with members of UNWLA Branch 3 in Phoenix, AZ. Taisa Jacus, Orysia’s daughter, is a member of Branch 3. A few members, including Taisa, are sponsors of the UNWLA Scholarship program. December 2013 . Together with other Soyuzianky (mostly from UNWLA Branch 86), we attended the Holodomor Memorial Groundbreaking ceremony in Washington, D . C . , on December 4th, which coincid- ed with the 80th Anniversary of the Holodomor - Genocide of 1932 - 1933 in Ukraine.
