ХХ Х Конвенція СУА 139 Collaboration and Coordination We continue to work closely with the Ukrainian National Women’s League of Ukraine ( Soyuz Ukrainok of Ukraine, or SUU) Scholarship Committee, under the direction of Alla Debeliuk since 1996. This committee is responsible for approving qualified students for scholarships r ecommended by SUU Regional Council presidents from all regions ( oblasts ) in Ukraine. We also have other trustworthy indi- viduals in Ukraine, who are familiar with the requirements of our program and recommend students who meet the necessary criteria. All of our contacts are responsible for making sure that scholarship recipients fulfill their duties to the UNWLA and to their sponsors. Since the establishment of the UNWLA Scholarship Program in 1967, we have maintained nu- merous trustworthy contacts in South America, especially with leaders and directors of the Institute of Santa Olga in Prudentopolis, Parana, Brazil. Among t he previous directors of the Institute are our former scholarship recipients – Olga Korczagin, Myroslawa Krevei, and the current director, Filomena Procek. Many other members of the Institute are devoted to educating future generations and instilling in them the value of the Ukrainian language, culture, traditions, and religion. The tremendous success of the UNWLA Scholarship Program can be attributed to the generosity of our sponsors and their unique understanding that education is the cornerstone for succes s, opening doors and creating opportunities that help individuals become valuable and productive members of socie- ty. Due to the generosity of sponsors and the support of UNWLA members, Branches and Regional Councils, the UNWLA Scholarship Program awarded s cholarships totaling $274,505.00 (see Financial Report). The majority of our scholarships were distributed to students in Ukraine. In the past three years, 231 students completed high school, technical schools, universities, and post graduate levels of edu cation. We are grateful to the members of Branch 49 in Buffalo, NY, for their annual month - long fund- raising campaign efforts resulting in the sponsorship of numerous students. Thank you to the members of Branch 98 for their work in the UNWLA Scholarship Committee and for their generous financial support. To all Branch sponsors, including the newly organized branches, my heartfelt thank you! The UNWLA Scholarship Program is wholly dependent on the generosity and kindheartedness of sponsors. Many sponsors have more than one student. We acknowledge with gratefulness and apprecia- tion our benevolent sponsors, Mr. and Mrs. Stefan and Wolodymyra Slywotzky, who for many years have aided hundreds of students; during the course of the last three years, 22 of them received their degrees. Student Achievements We are very proud of the accomplishments of our former UNWLA Scholarship recipients. Many of the notable successes were among the clergy of the Ukrainian Catholic and the Ukrainian Orthodox Churches in countr ies where our program was in effect. We congratulate Dr. Rev. Bohdan Pra k h on his newest appointment as Rector of the Ukrainian Catholic University (UCU) in L’viv. May 2011 – UNWLA XXIX Convention The XXIX Convention of the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America was held on May 27 - 30, 2011, in Whippany, NJ.
