138 ХХ Х Конвенція СУА MARIA POLANSKYJ, CHAIRWOMAN UNWLA SCHOLARSHIP/CHILDREN - STUDENT SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM UNWLA HONORARY MEMBER UNWLA Scholarship/Children - Student Sponsorship Program Mission Statement: To enhance and create opportunities through education and to preserve Ukrainian cultural heritage within and outside of the United States of Ameri ca The UNWLA Scholarship/Children - Student Sponsorship Program conducts its activities with the support of the UNWLA Scholarship Committee. Members of the Committee include Marianna Zajac, Ex - Officio UNWLA President, and the following members of UNWLA Branch 98 in Holmdel/Middle - town, NJ: Maria Polanskyj, UNWLA Scholarship Committee Chairwoman; Anna Kraw czuk, Honorary UNWLA President and former UN- WLA Scholarship Chairwoman, 1981 - 1993; Luba Bilowchtchuk, former UNWLA Scholarship Chair- woman, 1993 - 2002; M. Orysia Jacus, UNWLA Scholarship Committee Treasurer; and Dr. Daria Nowakiw - sky Lissy, member of UNWLA Br. 54 in Wilmington, DE. Office Ad- ministrator Victoria Mischenko, Pres- ident of UNWLA Branch 98, is also a volunteer. Another Branch 98 mem- ber voluntee r, Nadia Jaworiw, also dedicates many hours to our cause without compensation. L - R: Daria Nowakiwsky Lissy, Ph.D., M . Since the UNWLA is a non - profit, tax - exempt organization under IRS Code Section 501(c)(3) we are obligated to follow all of the rules and regulations that are set by the government for non - profit organ- izations. Volunteerism is one of t he keys to the success of the Scholarship Program. UNWLA Scholarship Program Committee members have donated their talents, expertise, and time to ensure a well - defined and coordinated approach to our program operations. Dedication and countless volunteer hours of the UN- WLA Scholarship Program leadership and committee members have significantly minimized our admin- istrative costs. Thank you to all committee members for your unrelenting enthusiasm, devotion, and hard work which contributed to the many achieve ments of the program, and a special acknowledgment to Na- dia Jaworiw for developing a procedure manual in the English language. I am eternally grateful to all who so competently and with steadfast commitment continued the work of the Program at the UNWLA S cholarship Office in Matawan, NJ, during my illness and recovery period in 2011. Each year, with the exception of 2011, I attended the annual UNWLA National Board meetings. In 2011, Anna Krawczuk, Honorary UNWLA President and Scholarship Committee member , attended the National Board meeting in my absence. For the past two years, members of the UNWLA Scholarship Committee and I were present in South Bound Brook, NJ, on St. Thomas Sunday to promote and inform the public about our Scholarship Program. We a re very grateful to the Consistory of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the United States of America for providing us with free space to publicize the UNWLA Scholarship/Children - Student Sponsorship Program.
