132 ХХ Х Конвенція СУА ROKSOLANA MISILO, ARTS AND MUSEUM CHAIRPERSON As the UNWLA’s Arts and Museum Chairperson for the past three years (2011 - 2014), I focused on Public Relations and Membership at the Ukrainian Museum (UM). Under the guidance of the Board of Trustees President, Mykola Darmochwal , the PR Committee was formed in June 2011 to augment the public relations done by the UM in promoting its exhibits and events. This committee prepared a nd expedited the hiring of an unpaid intern for the UM in the late spring of 2012. This practice has been very successful and is continued by the UM. We established per- sonal contact with local professors and local businesses, wrote additional articles, an d represented the UM at local fairs, for example, by assisting with the UM photo booth for the Ukrainian Festival and 7th Street Fair in New York City. The UM has a good digital footprint, but since social media are so fast - paced it is critical to up- date the UM’s website so that it can be sound and relevant going into the future. Please friend the UM on Facebook, and if you tweet, follow the UM on Twitter. For the past three years I have been the Membership Committee Chairperson. Our goal is to in- crease membership substantially. The YM@UM (Young Members at the Ukrainian Museum) for the 21 - 40+ age group was re- started to introduce our gem — the UM — to the future benefactors of the UM by holding fun events that would coincide with different exhibits at the UM. We have held an event each year, with very positive reviews. The first event, on November 4, 2011, was set to the very popular Invitation to a Wedding exhib- it and included a guided tour. It attracted 55 guests, out of which 40 became UM members. The seco nd YM@UM event, A Fall Evening at the UM , was held on September 28, 2012, and included a guided tour of the Kilims and Ilona Sochynsky exhibits. The most recent event was held on January 11, 2014, to a Breakfast at Tiffany theme. There were 82 attendees wh o enjoyed a photo booth with Audrey Hepburn, appetizers from that era, and fabulous themed desserts on a rotating stand with shimmering crystals, to name just a few highlights of this elegant cocktail party. In December 2013, we undertook a very ambitious membership drive, in which we asked each current member to bring in a new member. A lot of enthusiasm has been generated, and we are awaiting the results. As Arts and Museum Chair at the UM, I participated in all the meetings of the Board of Trustees, Me mbership Committee, PR Committee , and Special Events Committee. I also attended exhibit openings and UM fundraisers, and volunteered as needed. Specifically in 2012, I attended the opening events of the Kilims, Kosarev, and Ilona Sochynsky Exhibits, the Mo tyl book reading of My Orchidea , the luncheon hosted by the spouse of the Ukrainian Ambassador to the UN, and the runway fashion show of Elena V designs. I also attended the UM Wildwood fundraiser. As Arts Chair, I represented the UNWLA and the UM on Octob er 19, 2012, at the Branch 67’s (Philadelphia Regional Council) art exhibit/UM fundraiser, which was held at the Ukrainian Educational and Cultural Center. In 2013, I was present for the openings of Ron Kosteniuk’s Art - Nature - Art exhibit and the Out of Tr adition: Contemporary Decorative and Ap- plied Art exhibit, the very successful Valentine Soiree fundraiser on February 16th, and, for the second year in a row, the runway fashion show of Elena V designs. In September, I also attended the sold out Fashion Uk rainian Style runway show featuring Ukrainian designers Katya Pshechenko, Elena Va- silevsky, and Oksana Karavanska. The excitement of high couture in the air was truly contagious! Repre- senting the UNWLA as Arts and Museum Chair at the New Jersey Regional C ouncil’s Den Soyuzianky in April, I spoke about the Ukrainian Museum and showed a brief video to those in attendance. 2014 prom- ises to be an even more exciting year with the unique Mardi Gras fundraiser taking place on March 1st and the opening of the accl aimed Shevchenko exhibit scheduled for March 23rd. As Arts and Museum Chair, I attended the annual UNWLA Executive Board meetings, presented reports on the UM , and submitted articles to Our Life about activities at the UM. Working with the E xec-
