ХХ Х Конвенція СУА 111 On December 10th and 11th, government forces once again violently attacked the demonstrators, and ma ny injuries were reported. Snipers, directed by the government to kill, murdered unarmed demon- strators. The funerals for the 100 victims were held at the Maidan. They are the latest heroes in Ukraine’s long and arduous fight for freedom and sovereignty. Fr om that moment until the present, the UNWLA along with other Ukrainian diaspora organizations has been involved in a campaign of letter - writing, as well as telephoning and meeting with government officials to influence them to support Ukrainians’ fight for a free, peaceful, and democratic Ukraine. I have sent over 30 letters of appeal to our members urging them to take part in our campaign. For the February 2014 issue of Our Life , I wrote an article about Ruslana Lyzhychko, the “Heroine of the Maidan.” Th roughout this time and up to the present, I have sent out appeals to all UNWLA Board Mem- bers to take part in letter - writing and to telephone their legislators to help our brothers and sisters in Ukraine in their fight for human dignity and the basic rights of a democratic society. I shall continue in this fight for the rest of my life. We all must find time to respond to the cries of help from our brothers and sisters in Ukraine in any way possible. Members of our organization must not expect that the Publ ic Relations Vice President will do all the work. Public relations is the responsibility of all members of our organization. It is their job to report to the Public Relations Vice President what they have done to pro- mote the image of our organization. At t his writing, Ukraine is in a crisis. Russia has invaded the Crimea and may be on the brink of invading Eastern Ukraine. We all will pray that the good Lord would finally grant peace, dignity, and freedom to the Ukrainian people. After my term, I, as a Ukr ainian with American citizenship, shall continue to help my mother- land in every way possible. I wish my successor all the best when she takes over this important position. If needed, I shall always be available to help. It has been an honor and a privilege to have served as UNWLA Public Relations Vice President. I am very grateful for the opportunities which this position has afforded me. My special thanks goes out to all who supported me and helped me achieve the goals set forth by this organization. As I leave in 2014, it has also been a privilege to have been a member of 49 years in this prominent and highly respected or- ganization. May God bless the next board, and ma y God bless America and Ukraine!
