108 ХХ Х Конвенція СУА members of the Executive Board. The following were the recipients of recognition certificates: Irena Hladky, Oli a Trytiak, Oia Lukiw, Yuriy Luhovy, Jill Hennessy, Dr. Gennadiy Fuzaylov, Dr. Daniel Dris- coll, and a member of Br. 27 (Hlutkovska) in Pittsburgh, PA. I also prepared a Certificate of Appreciation ( Hramota ) for the 40th anniversary of Branch 53 in Detroit, MI, the 25th anniversary of Branch 98 in New Jersey, the 40th anniversary of Branch 75 in New Jersey, the 75th anniversary of the Philadelphia Regional Council, and for Branch 73 of Bridgeport, CT. I had the honor to be present for the last presen- tation in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Branch 73 in Bridgeport, CT, of which my mother Stefani a Babij was a founding member. I also w rote greetings to Halyna Yablonska, legendary Ukrainian artist of the Ukrainian theater and wished her Mnohaia Lita on her 8 0th birthday. I wrote greetings to Rev. Dr. Bohdan Prakh, congratulating him upon his appointment as Rector of Ukrainian Catholic University in L’viv. I attended the Ukrainian Catholic University Banquet in New York where Rector Rev. Dr. Prakh and Vice Rec tor Myroslav Marynovych were keynote speakers. Yearly, I wrote and designed Ukrainian and English - language Christmas greetings from the UNWLA, which appeared in the Ukrainian press in the newspapers The Ukrainian Weekly , Svoboda , Za- kordonna Hazeta, and Nov a Hazeta . I also wrote Christmas greetings to organizations with which the UNWLA shares mutual goals and working relationships, such as the Ukrainian Museum, the WFUWO, the UWC , and the UCCA, to mention just a few. I wrote and sent greetings from the UNWL A to the commemorative book of the 100th anniversary of Plast and to the X WFUWO Congress. All of these ac- tivities are part of the behind - the - scenes, non - public aspect of public relations. Educational and Humanitarian Initiatives As the UNWLA began its collaboration with the Ukrainian Catholic University in L’viv regard- ing the Lectureship in Women’s Studies, I wrote press releases for Ukrainian newspapers such as Za- kordonna Hazeta , Nova Hazeta , Svoboda, and The Ukrainian Weekly announcing this important project and partnership. On November 20, 2011, I attended ceremonies at Fordham University where Fordham conferred an honorary degree on the new Head of the Ukrainian Catholic Church, His Beatitude Major Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk. Archbishop of New York, Timothy Dolan, unveiled and blessed a newly installed marble mosaic coat of arms of Ukraine’s patriarch emeritus, His Eminence Lubomyr Cardinal Husar, ma- jor archbishop of Kyiv - Halych. Members of the UNWLA Executive Board had a private audience with P atriarch Sviatoslav. At that audience, President Marianna Zajac presented the patriarch with a check for $25,000.00 for the Women’s Studies Lectureship at UCU. After this event, I wrote letters of gratitude to Archbishop (now Cardinal) Timothy Dolan and President of Fordham University, Joseph McShane, for their commitment to the Ukrainian Patriarch Svi- atoslav and for their participation in recognizing the leaders of Ukrainian churches. Cardinal Archbishop Dolan sent a reply. Marianna Zajac and I met with and spoke to Cardinal Dolan in Kyiv, at the banquet after the consecration of the Kyiv Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral. It turned out that Cardinal Dolan remem- bered our letter. In August of 2011, I traveled to L’viv, Ukraine, with UNWLA President Marianna Z ajac, 1st Vice President Ulana Zinych, and Archivist Olia Drozdovych. Together with the members of Soyuz Ukrainok of Ukraine in L’viv, we celebrated the 90th anniversary since its inception and the 20th anni- versary since its rebirth in 1991. In the course of our visit, we met with Dr. Vasyl Savchyn, Head of the Burn Unit in L’viv Hospital No. 8, which the UNWLA supports; Natalia Zarichynska of the Ukrainian Catholic University; and Sviatoslav Serhiy at Sabre - Svitlo. When I was a member of the Executive Boar d, at my urging in the late 1980s and the early 1990s, the UNWLA had partnered with Sabre Founda- tion and created a “Books for Ukraine” Program which I supervised. When I left, the “Books for Ukraine” Fund had a surplus of over $8,000.00. During the visit t o Ukraine, I also attended the meetings of the World Federation of Ukrainian Women’s Organization (WFUWO) in L’viv and of the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) in Kyiv, and participated in celebrations marking the 20th anniversary of Ukraine's in- dependence. U pon my return to the United States, I wrote an article for Our Life sharing my impressions about the trip.
