ХХ Х Конвенція СУА 107 rianna Zajac, who reminded those present of the UNWLA’s commitment to propagate the truth about the Holodomor. In November of 2003, the UNWLA dedicated a commemorative issue of Our Life to the vic- tims of the Holodomor. In November of 2013, the U NWLA reprinted the issue to mark the 80th anniver- sary of the Famine - Genocide of 1932 - 33 in Ukraine. This issue was sent to various legislators in the United States together with a cover letter which I had written. In addition, the Presidents of the Regiona l Councils were given copies for their members so that they could distribute them to their local officials. In this way, the UNWLA continues to play an important role in campaigning for the official recognition of the Holodomor as genocide by the U.S. lead ership. For the past three years, I have represented the UNWLA on the U.S. Committee for Ukrainian Holodomor - Genocide Awareness 1932 - 1933. I have actively participated in the Committee’s teleconfer- ences and meetings, and reported on the activities of the Holodomor Committee to the Executive Board of the UNWLA. I also reported to the Holodomor Committee about the activities undertaken by the UN- WLA to commemorate and honor the victims of this atrocity and promulgate the truth about it. On De- cember 4, 2013, a groundbreaking ceremony was held at the future site of the Holodomor Memorial, which was designed by UNWLA member Larysa Kurylas. It was attended by UNWLA President Mari- anna Zajac and many Soyuzianky . As members of the UNWLA, we should be proud that th e early efforts of our organization to in- form the American leadership and the public about the Famine engineered by Stalin’s regime against the people of Ukraine have resulted in greater worldwide recognition of this tragedy. Our perseverance in not lettin g the world forget has culminated in a memorial to the victims of the Holodomor in the largest free country in the world. UNWLA Office of Public Relations in 2011 - 2014 After the election of new UNWLA officers at the national level, President Marianna Zaj ac asked all members of the Executive Board to present their goals and vision for the next term. I duly proposed the following objectives for the Office of Public Relations: write more articles to Ukrainian - language newspapers about the projects and work being done by the UNWLA; submit to Ukrainian - language newspapers an appeal to the women of the new wave of Ukrainian im- migration to join the UNWLA; encourage the public relations chairs in the branches to work together with their press secretaries in subm itting articles about their activities to local newspapers, Ukrainian - language newspapers, and The Ukrainian Weekly ; encourage branches to write to their local newspapers about their activities, especially about their charitable work (for example, place th eir events in the community calendar of the local paper); encourage branches and individual members to join local women’s organizations such as embroidery or quilting groups, those working with children or the aged, and ethnic study groups who share our in terests — in an effort to work together and inform them about the UNWLA. During my three - year term, I have worked to help realize the goals of the UNWLA and the above mentioned objectives. My activities may be divided into four categories: happy and celebra tory occasions, educational and humanitarian initiatives, organizational work, and the turbulent situations in Ukraine. Happy and Celebratory Occasions In the past three years I have been part of very happy occasions in the lives of our members, branches , and associates of the UNWLA. Since I designed the Recognition Certificates for the Honorary Members for the XXVIII Convention, when I began my term as the Public Relations Vice President, President Marianna Zajac asked that I write the words of recogniti on for the certificates awarded during my tenure. I produced eight such certificates. Some had my signature, and others had signatures of other
