a single project or program, it was decided that the profits from the event would be divided by the five organizations that had contracted the agreement with the hotel. Based on this decision, the UNWLA received $20,061.55. Your president and the following UNWLA members became members of the Presidential Banquet Committee in New York under the auspices of UCCA: Marta Danyluk, Roma Shuhan, and Irena Chaban. This committee was never dissolved after the banquet. I did write a letter to UCCA about this matter, but have received no response to date. T he E xecutive C om m ittee and T he N ational B oard The Executive Committee met five times in 2005, ten times in 2006, ten times in 2007, and 4 times in 2008. Within this time period, the following members of the Executive Committee resigned: • Christina Yarema - English-language corresponding secretary • Katheryna Nemyra - Press secretary • Dr. Maria Hawryluk - Chair of the Health & Environment Committee The Executive Committee co-opted: • Maria Tomorug as Ukrainian and English-language corresponding secretary. She was elected at the 2005 Convention to serve on the UNWLA Auditing Committee and had to resign. In accordance with the bylaws of the UNWLA, the National Board meetings are held annually, and all board members are required to present an annual report of their activities. During the first meeting after the convention, the National Board had to officially approve the plan of action for the upcoming term of office; during subsequent meetings, the board ensured that all activities were being executed according to the approved plan. Over the last three years, we worked in accordance with the resolutions passed at the XXVII UNWLA Convention. Associated financials were distributed by presidents of Regional Councils and reviewed by Branches. After the XXVII Convention, the National Board convened three times. As of this writing, a fourth meeting before the current convention is scheduled to close all current business. The successes of this organization during my term in office are in large part due to the hard work of the Executive Committee and the National Board members. To all of these individuals I wish to express my most sincere gratitude: Oxana Farion. Besides attending to her normal tasks as 1st vice president, Oxana thoroughly analyzed the expenses of Our Life magazine and took on the responsibility of managing the address list and subscriptions for Our Life. By computerizing these lists, we were able to close down the administrative offices in Matawan, New Jersey, saving the organization over $4,000 in rent and the cost of an office worker. In addition, Oxana has accomplished this work pro bono. She also, for the third time, has taken on the responsibility of coordinating funding for the convention book. Marta Danyluk, 2nd vice president in charge of organizational issues, maintained contact with the presidents of the Regional Councils and was available to advise them on many subjects. However, one of her great accomplishments was the finalization of a huge undertaking, namely the completion of the brochure, Short History of the UNWLA. The concept for this brochure had first been discussed under the presidency of Iwanna Rozhankowsky, and I am very pleased that the brochure was finally completed during my term in office. Every member should have received a copy. As I write this report, Mrs. Danyluk is also heading, for the third time, the committee responsible for the convention book. Thanks to her diligence, all delegates will receive a copy of all reports ahead of time and will be able to arrive at the convention informed about all of the issues to be addressed. Sophia Hewryk, 3rd vice president, represents the UNWLA in Ukraine where she has initiated a project focused on encouraging youth to read books written in Ukrainian. The UNWLA has donated $1,000 to buy the Ukrainian translation of the Harry Potter books for libraries in eastern Ukraine. Ms. Hewryk is XXVIII Конвенція СУА 95 www.unwla.org
