We have donated funds to the Ukrainian Museum, Our Life Press Fund, and UNWLA Scholarship Program, the Milk and Rolls Program, the Babusia Fund, and have supported Social Welfare needs and domestic aid. We were happy to assist a Ukrainian soldier, Officer Valerij Ovsienko, who was hospitalized in San Antonio undergoing bum treatment in 2005. Branch 118 provided Valerij and his wife Luba with money for airfare to return to Ukraine. In the spring of 2007, Branch 118 sponsored two pysanky classes, which were held in the Spring Branch-Memorial Public Library and conducted by Elizabeth Zugarlicki. The classes were well attended and aided in publicizing the upcoming bazaar. In June of 2007, Branch 118 held a regular meeting in the newly opened cafe bar Avantgarden, under the proprietorship of Marianna Topchy. The second floor of the renovated Victorian home where the cafe bar is located provided us with a meeting place and the outdoor patio provided a great social gathering area. Branch 118 was established in 1972, under the leadership of Justyna Wijtyk Uschak, a dedicated member of the organization for the past 35 years who celebrated her 80th birthday in 2007, an event coinciding with the 2007 Ukrainian Easter Bazaar. In recognition of her work in the branch and in the UNWLA, branch members thanked Justyna and presented her with a large bouquet of flowers.
