Organized 1952 Branch 13 currently has 22 members, ranging in age from 28 to 93. These members are in a variety of life situations: Some are single, others are mothers with young children, and some are nursing home residents. Our branch membership boasts three mother-daughter pairs and even a grandmother- daughter-granddaughters combination! Our members also have a wide range of Ukrainian language proficiency—three members are Ukrainian by marriage. Our meetings and functions are always bilingual. This has enabled us to project Soyuz Ukrainok as an organization open to ALL women with Ukrainian connections. We are all brought together by a common love of Ukrainian culture and by our belief in the amazing strength and abilities of women! Branch 13 has always had close ties to Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church. We are all members of the parish, and the branch serves as the center and caretaker of “things Ukrainian” for the parishioners. With that goal in mind, we organize an annual Christmas Eve supper (Prosfora-Yalynka) as well as the Christmas and Easter bazaars, where we provide traditional Ukrainian food for the holidays. We also sponsor a pysanka workshop open to parishioners and the community. Branch 13 has also organized programs about Shevchenko, Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky, and the Holodomor. Our branch meetings are held monthly in the church hall, and we sponsor Coffee and Cake events for the parish once a month in return for free use of the church hall for our functions. In an attempt to keep our elderly or infirm members involved in our activities, we take some of our meetings to them— whether in the nursing home or in their own homes. We also try to hold family picnics each year to include spouses and children. Branch 13 also supports the activities of other local branches and our Regional Council by attending functions they host.
