Jesus in Prudentopolis, Parana, Brazil, who also heads the Colegio Santa Olga—a boarding school for girls of Ukrainian descent, where we have been awarding scholarships since 1967. Because this school accepts only girls of Ukrainian descent, there is no assistance from the Brazilian government. Many of the girls received scholarships from the UNWLA. Some of the scholarship recipients have graduated; some have earned college degrees. We are grateful to their sponsors for this. Fathers of St. Basil the Great continue their educational programs in their seminaries in Curitiba and Prudentopolis, Parana, Brazil. Many of our former scholarship recipients became ordained priests and are now serving Ukrainian Catholic parishes worldwide, including the United States and Ukraine. Within the last three years, three of these priests were elevated to bishop: Volodymyr Koubetch, Meron Mazur, and Daniel Koslinski. Our sincere congratulations to them and to their sponsors. The UNWLA Scholarship Program continues its effort in Argentina through the recommenda tions of Reverend Hewko in Berisso, B. A. However, we do see a decline in applications since the independence of Ukraine. Contacts made previously with people of Ukrainian who reside in Georgia and Uzbekistan are complex, and our efforts to develop our program in these areas is progressing slower than anticipated. Personal interaction would improve understanding and coordination, and it is therefore, my intend to visit Tbilisi (Georgia) and Tashkent (Uzbekistan) and personally assess the situation, the needs, and the impediments to success. In Ukraine itself, we already have a good system that is aided and supported by the responsible, caring people who work with us. The number of applicants for scholarships is increasing, as is the number of sponsors who wish to support students in Ukraine. Press Release February 2005. Both Svoboda and America published a Ukrainian-language press release, titled Ukrainians for Ukrainian Students, about the UNWLA Scholarship/Children-Student Sponsorship Program. Other Activities May 2005. During the XXII UNWLA Con vention in Albany, New York, the UNWLA Scholar ship Program presented a very successful panel discussion. The panelists were Dr. Daria Nowakiw- ska Lissy, M. Orysia Jacus, and a former scholarship recipient from Ukraine, now an attorney, Christina Dudchenko Andarak. Maria Polanskyj served as moderator. 2005 and 2007. Meetings with the director of the Institute of Catechists of the Sacred Heart, Vera Lozova, in Stamford, Connecticut, during her visit from Brazil. March 2005. I attended funeral services at St. Andrew's Cemetery in South Bound Brook, New Jersey, for UNWLA Honorary Member, Marusia V. Beck. The five people attending included UNWLA Honorary President Anna Rrawczuk, who read the eulogy on behalf of the organization; UNWLA President Iryna Kurowyckyj; and President of the Board of Trustees of the Ukrainian Museum, Olha Hnateyko.
