The total amount of UNWLA Social Welfare aid giving during the period from January 1, 2007 to December 31, 2007 was as follows: • Through the UNWLA Social Welfare: $43,815 • Through the UNWLA Branches: $33,022 For a Grand Total in 2007: $76,837 Grand Total for 3 years: $200,340 The Welfare Social Chair participated in the following: • A seminar sponsored by the International Council of Women held during the session of the Commission on the Status of Women. • A meeting held by an NGO Committee “Family at the UN” where Anna Krawczuk, the UNWLA’s Honorary President and former UNWLA Chair of the Scholarship/Stipend Program, gave an informative speech about the UNWLA scholarship program. • A bazaar held at the UN dedicated to the sad 20th anniversary of the Chomobyl disaster. • A meeting with Ukrainian women from a Soroptimist Club from Dnipropetrovsk. • Conferences sponsored by the New York Regional Council and at the annual meetings of the New York Regional Council. • The 75th Anniversary of the Holodomor sponsored by the Ukrainian Mission at the UN. • At meetings with various members of the Ukrainian Parliament such as O.H. Bilous, О. B. Bilozir, L. O. Kazary, E. V. Komijchuk, В. B. Lukianova and with Ruslana Lyzychko, a member of the Ukrainian Parliament as well as a famous singer and Ambassador of Good Will to UNICEF. • A meeting with Olia Vivchar, a young girl who was returning to Ukraine after medical treatments in San Francisco. On behalf of the entire Social Welfare Committee, I would like to thank: • Iryna Kurowyckyj, president of the UNWLA, for her kind cooperation, words of advice, coordination of the committee’s work with the Executive Board, and for delivering money to Ukraine. • Sofia Hewryk, Vice President - culture, for her advice regarding Social Welfare programs and for delivering money to Ukraine. • Irena Chaban - editor of Our Life magazine for help with publishing the donation lists in Our Life and for delivering money to Ukraine. • Natalia Duma - the UNWLA office administrator for her help, information, and advice regarding office procedures. I would also like to extend my sincerest personal thank you to all the members of the Social Welfare Committee without whose help, kind words of advice, and cooperation I would not have been able to achieve everything that was planned: • Lidia Zakrewsky who started helping me even before the committee was formed. I especially thank her for sorting the Social Welfare archives and putting them in order after the unexpected death of Barbara Bachynsky, the former Social Welfare chair. I thank her for writing all receipts, thank you letters to all the donors, for taking care of matters by telephone, and for all her help on the committee. • Maria Sorobey-Shtohryn for all the bookkeeping which was done very professionally, for preparation of the donation lists for Our Life, and for all her help on the Committee.
