RENATA ZAJAC, TREASURER As national treasurer for UNWLA during 2005-2008, I prepared the financial statements for our four divisions: Home Office, Our Life, Social Welfare, and Scholarship Programs. This, of course, could not have been completed without the assistance of Pani Holova, Iryna Kurowyckyj, and a new filing system I implemented to organize the accounting backup. The annual financial statements were then audited by Oleh Sawkiw, CPA. This audit process is necessary for both tax preparation (also by O. Sawkiw) and grant application. During my tenure, I took over the payroll functions, saving UNWLA the fee of a payroll service, as had been the procedure previously. In addition, I prepared the quarterly and annual Federal and New York State employment withholding tax filing offering additional savings for UNWLA. UNWLA is a non-profit 501 ( c) 3 organization and, by definition, is limited to charitable, educational, and cultural activities. UNWLA cannot support or give donations to political and / or religious groups. UNWLA branches and regional councils may hold fundraisers only for in-house programs and activities. Any deviation from these limited activities may cause us to lose our non-profit status. We, as an organization, have various humanitarian, educational, and cultural work to continue and rely on donations and contributions that are made based on our status. We cannot jeopardize our non for profit status. Beyond these responsibilities: I attended several functions at the United Nations as a UNWLA board member: a United States-Ukrainian Relations event at New York University in Dec 2007; MC’d Our Life’s 60th anniversary program in the Fall of 2005. In addition, at the request of the Executive Board, I researched the most cost-efficient option for a new UNWLA office copier. It has been my privilege to serve as the UNWLA Treasurer and work with the Financial Secretary, Roma Shuhan. A special thank you to the Executive Board for its support. РЕНАТА ЗАЯЦЬ, СКАРБНИК Як скарбник СУА, протягом 2005-2008 pp., я підготовляла фінансові звіти для Централі СУА, Суспільної Опіки, журналу «Наше Життя» та Стипендійної Акції. Також запровадила нову систему фінансової документації. Це, звичайно, не могло бути завершене без допомоги пані голови Ірини Куровицької. Опісля, річні фінансові звіти були перевірювані Олегом Савківом, СРА. Цей процес конечний для державних податкових звітів (підготовуваних також О. Савківом) та при аплікаціях на Гранти. Під час моєї каденції, я виготовляла заробітні платні, що заощадило СУА додаткові кошти. Також підготовляла квартальні та річні федеральні й стейтові податки Нью-Йорку, що принесло додаткові заощадження для СУА. СУА є неприбутковою 501(с)3 організацією, яка обмежується до благодійної, навчальної та культурної діяльности. Відділи та округи СУА можуть переводити збірки фондів тільки для своєї діяльности. Будь-яке відхилення від цієї обмеженої діяльности може викликати втрату нашого неприбуткового статусу. Окрім моєї повищої праці, як членка Екзекутиви СУА, брала участь в декількох імпрезах у Об'єднаних Націях; була присутня на панелі «Відношення США - Україна» в Університеті Нью- Йорку в грудні 2007 p.; вела програмою з нагоди 60-ліття «Нашого Життя» восени 2005 р. На прохання Екзекутиви, я розглянула можливости купна найбільш ефективної копіювальної машини для канцелярії СУА. Ця праця була для мене великим привілеєм. Складаю спеціяльну подяку Ромі Шуган, фінансовій секретарці та цілій Екзекутиві за їхню співпрацю. 132 XXVIII Конвенція СУА www.unwla.org
