ship of this brochure. It was decided that every member would receive a copy of the brochure, and presidents of all Regional Councils received copies for members in their respective regions at the annual meeting of the National Board as a gift from the Executive Committee. I personally mailed copies to all the Branches-at-Large and to all Members-at-Large. In 2007, a second edition of 3,000 copies had to be printed because branches had started using these brochures at their membership drives and as advertisement about the UNWLA’s accomplishments at their various programs. The UNWLA Publishing Fund paid for this second printing. The brochure was translated into English by Marianna Zajac, vice president in charge of public relations; the editing was done by Tamara Stadnychenko, the editor of the English section of Our Life magazine; the design and layout was again done by Hanya Krill-Pyziur who also served as liaison with the printer. We express our gratitude to all of them for their input. The publication of 4,000 copies of the English-language color brochure was made possible by an anonymous donor to whom we express our sincere thanks. Both brochures serve as calling cards for the UNWLA, and the English-language version is especially useful as a give-away at various international national conferences. In order to help the organizational chairs in their work, I prepared the following: 1) a membership application form for new members (see Our Life magazine, January 2006; 2) the duties and respon sibilities of branch organizational chairs; 3) the responsibilities of the Regional Council chairs; and 4) a project on how keep a full and detailed branch registers of all its members. During this reporting period, I sent out four circulars to all the Branches and Regional Councils. I called upon the Branches to keep very detailed registers of all of their members. I also stressed the importance having an organizational chair in each Regional Council and Branch. The organizational chairs should form committees and together they should work on planning membership drives. I recommended that each Regional Council should have a so-called “informative corner” about the history, programs, and accomplishments of the UNWLA in the form of photographs, brochures, copies of Our Life magazine, copies of articles in various newspapers about the activities of the Branches or Regional Councils, etc., and have this available for display at various Branch or Regional Council events. I also suggested that Regional Councils hold organizational conferences with neighboring councils for a better exchange of ideas. I reminded all the Branch and Council presidents about the importance of the annual reports, which have to be filled out as correctly as possible, and of their responsibility that these forms are completed and submitted in a timely fashion. Proper recordkeeping and reporting are very important in any organization and serves as an overview of all its programs, events, growth or decline of membership. It is also very helpful when making future plans. The last circular that I sent out was about the criteria to be used for issuing citations during the XXVIII UNWLA Convention. As vice president, I attended the monthly meetings of the Executive Committee and the three annual meetings of the National Board. During the first annual meeting, held on Friday, November 10, 2005,1 was in charge of the organizational session for the Regional Council presidents. I distributed to all the presidents folders with important organizational materials for the organizational chairs and asked that the organizational chair make copies of all these materials and then distribute them to all the Branch organizational chairs. During this session, there was a discussion regarding the duties and responsibilities of Regional Councils and how to plan effective membership drives. At the second annual meeting, which was held on September 29-30 and October 1, 2006, there were several round-table discussions on various matters. I chaired one of the round-table discussions, and we discussed membership of the organization. The resolutions of this round table appeared in Our Life magazine, October 2006 issue. I was invited by Nadia Sawchuk, the president of the New York Regional Council, to participate in two conferences of all the chairs of this region on November 11, 2006 and December 2, 2007. At the first conference, every chair shared her responsibilities, duties, powers, and accomplishments as a chair of her given committee. At the second conference, I gave the organizational chair of the Regional Council a folder containing various organizational material and all the current circulars and stressed that each chair should have a similar folder and that these folders should be handed down from one chair to the next elected chair. I again stressed the recruitment of new members and that Branches should try all kinds of methods to achieve the end result—new members. I also stressed how important it is for each chair to 114 XXVIII Конвенція СУА www.unwla.org
