we react to this situation and how can we prevent it? Branch meetings should be held every month, with an interesting and well-prepared agenda and annual meetings of Branches and Regional Councils should be held in the spring of each year with prepared agenda and annual reports. If Branches and Regional Council do not meet regularly, members lose interest in the organization’s activities. A review of written reports from Regional Councils and Branches shows that our organization has 86 Branches organized in 9 Regions and 11 Branches-at-Large. Detroit Region was founded in 1935. The current president of the Detroit Regional Council is Lidia Kazevych. The Region numbers thirteen branches: 5, 23, 26,45, 50, 53, 58, 76, 81, 83, 96, 115, and 129. Branch 129 was established in January 2004. Branches 5 and 23, which were established in 1933, are in the process of dissolution due to the advanced age and poor health of its members. New York Region was established in 1940. The current president of the Regional Council is Nadia Sawchuk. The Region numbers fifteen branches: 1, 21, 30, 35, 62, 64, 71, 83, 89, 103, 113, 119, 123, 125, and 127. Branch 82 was dissolved. New Jersey Region was established in 1959. The current president of the Regional Council is Kateryna Wolowodiuk. The Region numbers eleven branches: 4, 18, 24, 28, 65, 70, 75, 86, 92, 98, and 100. Branch 4, once a very active branch in the Region, decided to dissolve because of the relocation of branch members and loss of interest in the activities of the UNWLA. New England Region was established in 1972. The current president of the Regional Council is Dionizia Brochinsky. The Region numbers four branches: 73, 106, 108, and 126. Branch 66 was dissolved on November 3, 2002. Northern New York Region was established in 1955. The current president of the Regional Council is Marta Stasiuk. The Region numbers six branches: 46,47, 49, 68, 97, and 120. Central New York Region was established in 1974. The current president of the Regional Council is Marianna Zajac. The Region numbers five branches: 9, 34, 57, 95, and 99. Ohio Region was established in 1959. The current president of the Regional Council is Iwanna Shkarupa. The Region has three branches: 8, 12, and 33. Branch 116 was dissolved, and the region is having difficulty in establishing communication with Branch 8. Philadelphia Region was established in 1938. The current president of the Regional Council is Christine Chomyn Izak. The Region numbers fourteen branches: 2, 10, 13, 19, 43, 52, 54, 59, 67, 80, 88, 90, 91, and 128. Branches 2, 52, and 80 are inactive. Chicago Region was established in 1962. The current president of the Regional Council is Luba Kalin. The Region numbers seven branches: 66, 22, 29, 36, 74, 85, and 101. Branch 51 was dissolved. Branches-at-Large number eleven branches: 3, 14, 17, 27, 38, 56, 78, 107, 111, 118, and 124. The Liaison for Branches at Large is Ulana Hlynska. There are currently 154 Members-at-Large. Recruitment of new members and retention of organization’s membership is the only guarantee of the UNWLA’s further growth. Therefore, expanding Branch membership and establishing new branches are two of the most important tasks of each Branch and Region membership chair. Recruitment of new members to the organization should be our top priority. Establishing channels of communication with women from the fourth wave as well as with our daughters and granddaughter is of utmost importance. Personal contacts are the most successful. Each of us bears responsibility for this. 80 XXVII Конвенція СУА www.unwla.org
