Archives Olga Trytyak has done work that no one in our organization ever dreamed would be possible. She has spent countless hours and invested much effort and energy in compiling UNWLA archival materials and forwarding them to the University of Minnesota Archive Center. This project has been a colossal undertaking, and her skillful attention to this matter is greatly appreciated. Recognition and Citations In 2003, the UNWLA received a citation from the President of Ukraine for humanitarian work. I made copies of the citation and presented these to all the women who have worked in this field since Ukraine’s independence. As your president, I received a citation form Verkhovna Rada and a citation from the Foreign Minister of Ukraine acknowledging my efforts on behalf of the UNWLA in helping to build a new nation. UNWLA President Iryna Kurowyckyj is presented a citation from President of Ukraine for the organizations work in the humanitarian aid. The ceremony took place in the Ukrainian Consulate. Standing Consul General Serhiy Pohorelcev and M. Koval Presidents representative. Administrative Matters There were 22 Executive Committee meetings and three National Board Meetings. 750 letters went out and 890 letters and cards, including invitations, were received. On an average, 12 letters a day via e-mail were received and had to be answered immediately. I would like to thank my husband for helping me in dealing with this email correspondence, for constantly reminding me to answer emails immediately, and his help in answering such messages when I was away. I would also like to thank him for his financial support; almost all of my travel on UNWLA business was covered by personal financing. Most of all, I would like to thank my husband for the moral support that has sustained me during crises and during those times when there too few hours to do too many things. My hopes of having a new office for the newly elected administration have not been realized because the space to be used for this purpose was occupied by the Ukrainian Museum longer than anticipated due to a delay in getting a certificate of occupancy for the new museum building. When the Ukrainian Museum moves into its new facility, we will have to make new arrangements for maintenance and for the upkeep of the building. This will require legal assistance since the building is jointly owned by the UNWLA (40%) and UCCA (60%). Furthermore, over the last 29 years, the building has suffered from neglect and deterioration. Substantial work will be required to renovate the facility before it can function as an appropriate headquarters for our organization. The property in Pitman County continues to present problems. Environmental laws prohibit building on this site. We have interviewed ten potential buyers. I thank the firm of Dekaylo & Dekaylo for its pro bono assistance in these negotiations. At this time, we are no longer paying taxes on this property. We cannot afford to continue supporting a property that has become more of a burden than an investment. UNLWA headquarters is currently being conducted in two offices and this is expensive as well as chaotic. As most of you that came to the office in New York have seen, there is not enough room for computers or filing cabinets that are essential for UNWLA work. To cut costs, I was forced to shorten the 70 XXVII Конвенція СУА www.unwla.org
