Public Relations Motria Voyevidka-Sloniewsky, vice president for public relations, represented our organization at briefings at the U.S. Department of State, the Ukrainian Embassy, and other venues. At my request, UNWLA Parliamentarian Dr. Oksana Xenos also represented the UNWLA in Washington at various luncheons and briefings. Dr. Xenos had a special presentation about the UNWLA at The Foreign Service Institute’s Europe Area Studies Program, and I am pleased to note that this was a first time a Ukrainian had been invited to present a lecture at this venue. A detailed report on this event, authored by Dr. Xenos, appears in this convention book. I would like to thank both ladies for doing a wonderful job representing the UNWLA. As your president, I have attended numerous briefings at the United States Mission to the UN and additional briefings in Washington. The Encyclopedia of the Ukrainian Diaspora I would like to express my gratitude to Marta Danyluk for her invaluable assistance in preparing the history of UNWLA for the Encyclopedia. Because the reports of the Regional Councils are not always complete (some, for example, do not contain the names or the years of their presidents), we had to search through the old editions of Our Life to gather the correct information and make numerous calls current presidents to corroborate facts. I could not have finished this history without Marta Danyluk’s help. The World of the 21st Century Woman Conference UNWLA Branch 95 is to be congratulated on organizing and hosting a conference of this magnitude. The conference addressed global problem, such as health and the environment, aging, and organizational issues. Numerous excellent speakers provided solutions to some pressing social problems and offered interesting insights on a variety of issues. They challenged those attending the conference by posing questions that will prepare us to deal better with our organization's future. Marianna Zajac and her team deserve special recognition for a tremendous job. U C C A Congress, September 25,2004 As UNWLA president, I took part in a special session about “the unity of the Ukrainian community” where I made a statement on behalf of UNWLA with respect to this very important issue in the Ukrainian community. A transcript of my statement, approved by the UNWLA Executive Committee, was published in the November 2004 issue of Our Life. During the Congress, Oxana Farion presented a lecture at the seminar on education about our work with pre-schools. I would like to thank Oxana for her excellent preparation and presentation of this material. Finances I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to Nadia Cwiach who has excelled at performing her own responsibilities as Financial Secretary as well as those she assumed with the resignation of the UNWLA Treasurer. Both jobs were challenging and sometimes onerous, and Ms. Cwiach is to be commended for everything that she accomplished. Together, Nadia Cwiach and I entered the organization's yearly transaction in computer files. Marta Danyluk and I worked on preparing accurate reports of Social Welfare finances. I am greatly pleased to inform all of our members that due to the efforts of Oksana Xenos, our organization has become part of the Combined Federal Campaign (CFS). This means that in 2005 we will be getting donations under UNWLA #2669 for support of cultural and educational affairs. On March 12, 2003, the IRS audited our organization for the 2000-2003 fiscal year. The IRS auditor stated that the UNWLA finances were in order, and all of us should be thankful to Nadia Cwiach for making this possible. XXVII Конвенція СУА 69 www.unwla.org
