U N W L A M e m b e r s h i p The year 2003 was proclaimed the Year of Membership. In the January issue of Our Life we published application forms for new members in both languages. Since that time, the organization has welcomed new members and bid goodbye to members who no longer have the health or the strength or the ability to participate in our programs. The Vice President for Membership, Sophia Hewryk, has worked diligently to compile membership statistics for the organization, based on reports submitted from Regional Councils. Two new Branches were formed: Branch 128 in Philadelphia and Branch 129 in Detroit. At the same time, two branches were officially dissolved: Branch 20 in Philadelphia and Branch 66 in New England. While this may seem to be a balanced exchange, it is not. For an organization to flourish and grow, its membership must grow. Membership is an issue that must be vigorously pursued by all of us. Your President attended the Branch celebrations and programs as well as annual meetings of Regional Councils. On these occasions, I met many hardworking and determined women. They have inspired me to believe that the problem with membership can be resolved and there is every reason to believe that it can be resolved if we all focus attention and effort on attracting other hardworking and determined women to join those already among us.
