Zurkiwskyj (Branch Secretary in 2002 and 2003) were elected to attend and represent the Branch as delegates at the Convention. Both found attendance at the convention a rewarding and motivating experience as we were able to see up close and personal how the organization operates on a national level. We also enjoyed meeting members from branches across the USA and UNWLA Headquarters. Presently, Branch 115 has a membership of more than 30 dues-paying members who receive Our Life. Many new members have come on board thanks to the active recruitment efforts of Genny Murskyj (current membership chair since 2002 and former co-vice president in 2000); they are given a nicely prepared informative package. Ann Buhay, treasurer since 2002, has been tireless in her pursuit of collecting dues in a timely manner and maintaining detailed financial records. Lesia Bolde easily and efficiently stepped into her new role as branch secretary in 2004. All members have e-mail addresses, making it possible for easy and effective communication of minutes, announcements, and events occurring between monthly meetings. Currently, Branch 115 has three members in positions on the Detroit UNWLA Regional Council. Besides participating in UNWLA activities, many members and their children are very active in other Detroit-area Ukrainian organizations, such as Plast (Ukrainian Scouts), PTO events, fundraisers for Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Catholic Schools, Dibrova Estate, and Chemyk-Ukrainian Sports Club. Many work as committee chairs and volunteers for the annual Ukrainian Sunflower Festival in Warren, Michigan. The following projects reflect the efforts of Branch 115 to contribute to the enrichment of our local Ukrainian community in the Detroit area, the UNWLA, and the public at large: • Pysanka Workshop for Children held annually on Palm Sunday (2000 through 2004). • Ukrainian Art Camp for Children (one week in June). Activities include hutsul/trypi Ilian kera- mika painting, Ukrainian design T-shirts, cement garden stones in a tryzub and Ukrainian flag design, mosaic application on wooden birdhouses, Ukrainian embroidery, gerdany, wooden cross painting, pottery windchimes, face painting. • Ecology projects: tour of local recycling center for kids and moms, flower/plant exchange, clean up day and tree/flower planting at Dibrova Estate picnic grounds as well as a planting and crafting activity during Plast children’s camps on Zeleny Yar. • Local Ukrainian artist Roman Seniuk demonstrated the art of pysanka-making to the public through the Detroit Institute of Arts Artist at Work series (referred by Branch 115). • Branch 115 Ladies Night Out. 246 XXVII Конвенція СУА www.unwla.org
