OKSANA XENOS PARLIAMENTARIAN C o m b i n e d F e d e r a l C a m p a i g n In January 2004,1 submitted the UNWLA’s application for participation in the U.S. Office of Personnel Management’s 2 0 0 4 C o m b i n e d F e d e r a l C a m p a i g n . As a result, the UNWLA was designated for the first time ever as a “National/International Organization” (CFC #2669), to which Federal em ployees, including military personnel, may designate their annual payroll contribution pledges. This extensive project involved the compilation or retrieval of pertinent financial statements, annual reports, and tax-related documents, and the preparation of a detailed description of UNWLA program activities, background data, organizational history, analysis of fundraising activities, terms of officers, and activities of the Executive Committee and Board. Upon notification of the UNWLA’s successful application, I developed informational flyers, full-color “press quality” advertising copy, and media releases, which were published in Our Life, The Ukrainian Weekly, America, and the Washington Post Express, and appeared as lead-in articles on UNWLA and BRAMA Web sites. I also distributed informational flyers at an information booth at St. Andrew’s Ukrainian Festival in Silver Spring, MD, on September 25, 2004. Almost daily, we are now receiving notifications of donations and payroll pledges from Federal employee contributors throughout the United States through their respective CFC/United Way organizations. Participation in the CFC requires annual re-application. On January 25, 2005, 1 submitted the UNWLA’s application for the 2 0 0 5 C o m b i n e d F e d e r a l C a m p a i g n . OUR LIFE I submitted the following articles for publication in Our Life: “ Bringing Up Baby in Ukrainian ” (September 2002) “Are Your Social Security Benefits Taxable? ” (October 2002) “ Don’t Fall Victim to a Tax Scam! ” (November 2002) “TaxAlert” (July/August 2003) O r g a n i z a t i o n a l A c t i v i t i e s At the UNWLA’s “World of the 21st Century Woman” Conference held at Soyuzivka (April 4-6, 2003), I co-presented a seminar on Legal and Financial Fitness, highlighting tax-related and legal topics of particular interest to the audience. I also participated on a panel of judges selected to assist the UNWLA’s Executive Committee in reviewing submissions and choosing the best candidates for the UNWLA’s “Young Women Achievers Award,” which is to be presented at the XXVII UNWLA Convention in Albany, NY. L i a i s o n A c t i v i t i e s At the request of UNWLA President Iryna Kurowyckyj, I participated in a number of liaison- oriented functions in the Washington, DC, area. On December 11, 2002, I attended a U. S. Department of State briefing by National Security Advisor Dr. Condoleezza Rice. I was one of approximately 30 invited guests representing eight ethnic communities with ties to several Eurasian countries recently accepted or currently under consideration for entry into NATO. On August 1, 2003,1 attended a briefing at the U. S. Department of State, which included Paula Dobriansky, Under Secretary for Global Affairs, on the “Progress Against Trafficking in Persons in 112 XXVII Конвенція СУА www.unwla.org
