It was with great enthusiasm that 24 founding members of our Branch began their work in March of 2001 in both the Ukrainian and American milieus. Since its inception ten years ago, the Branch has proven that it possesses the ability to carry out the goals of the UNWLA, as well as to acquaint the American public with its identity and history and also with the richness and depth of its cultural heritage and traditions. Branch 95 presently consists of 26 members (2002 membership) and originally belonged to the New York Regional Council but was moved in 1998 to the Central New York Council. The formula to its success is the belief that meaningful and worthy goals can be reached only through loyalty and commitment - to our organization and to each other. 10 YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY • Annual goodwill packages to Ukraine • Informative and educational cultural and craft workshops offered through the Dutchess County Arts Council - e. g. wedding traditions and breads, Easter traditions and baskets, the art of Ukrainian embroidery - each of these featured in DCAC community booklets and directories • Annual participation in “The Festival of Trees,” a Christmas tree display and decorating competition sponsored by Vassar Brothers Hospital Mothers’ Club of Poughkeepsie, NY (“Best Independent Tree” prize won for yalynka entitled “Carpathian Naturals"). • Annual pysanka workshops offered through the YWCA and presently at A.C. Moore (a national chain of craft supplies stores) as well as pysanky exhibits at various venues - featured in local newspapers. • “Theme” community luncheons - e.g. embroidery and Hutsul luncheons held at the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church of Kerhonkson, NY.
