ANNA MACIELINSKI, VICE PRESIDENT FOR MEMBERSHIP AND ORGANIZATIONAL AFFAIRS Recruiting new members is critical to insuring continued success and requires a concerted e ffo rt from all levels o f our organization. As vice president for membership and organizational affairs, my initial plan of action was guided by the resolutions put forth at the 28th UNWLA Convention held in Detroit, Michigan, in 2008. These were: (1) the recruitment of new members with focus on young women entering branches or becoming Members-at-Large; (2) to reiterate the duties of membership chairs at the branch and regional council levels; (3) to reiterate the important role of the regional council presidents to provide leadership and support to all branches and assistance to faltering branches; (4) to encourage members who are unable to actively participate in branches to become Members-at-Large. UNWLA Membership Recruitment and Retention National Campaign Successful recruitment of new members occurs primarily at the local level. My initial goal was to provide branches with the tools for success. A team consisting of members with special talents and resources was formed from various regions. Together, in 2009, we prepared a bilingual “Recruitment Kit,” available both as a hard copy and on disk. Numerous inquiries and applications have been received via the website. Branch presidents reported a total of 107 new members in 2009 (data for 2010 was not available at press time). Please note that kits are still available. Regional Councils and branches that notably increased membership include: ❖ Branch 85 (Chicago) recruited 13 new members (2009) ❖ Branch 49 (Buffalo) added 8 new members (2009) ❖ Branch 118 (Houston) recruited 8 new members (2010) ❖ New Jersey Regional Council - new Branch 131 with 16 members (January 2009) ♦♦♦ Detroit Regional Council - new Branch 132 with 14 members (June 2009) 92 XXIX Конвенція СУА www.unwla.org
