• Щойно повернулася з Чікаґо, де заступала голову СУА на 50-літті 29-го Відділу. Була це цікава, приємна і повчальна поїздка. На полуденку/концерті заля була заповнена, що свідчить про пошану громади до 29-го Відділу СУА. Членки відділу щедрі, працьовиті, талановиті і все доброї гадки. (Запах їх домашніх тісточок не зможу забути.) Незадовго після заснування відділу членки відкрили Світличку “Садок казок”, провадили нею вміло і віддано. По 25 роках передали цю “перлину” на руки 85-го відділу, де нав чаються вже внуки і правнуки засновниць, а дві учительки є випускниці “Садка казок”. Тепер ця Світличка має назву “Садок вишневий”. Під час виступу на 50-літті зачаровували гостей власне наші малята, наша гордість і мрія. Ще раз дякую всім, хто мені допомагав в моїй праці за останні три роки. Щира подяка делегаткам XXVIII Конвенції СУА, котрі виявили довір’я, вибравши мене на цей пост. Бажаю наступній Головній Управі СУА багато успіхів у праці для добра нашої організації. Щасти Вам, Боже! ULANA ZINYCH FIRST VICE PRESIDENT OF UNWLA The First Vice President of the UNWLA performs the duties of the president as requested and when the president is not available to perform them. Over the past three years, I have done my best to accomplish this. I shall not describe in detail all my functions, but I wrote letters; collaborated on articles that were submitted for publication to The Ukrainian Weekly and Our Life; and attended events at the UN, the Ukrainian Mission, and various other venues. I was also privileged to attend several annual Regional Council meetings and branch anniversaries. Highlights of the activities I performed during the past three years are included in this report. The UNWLA Website Soon after the XXVIII Convention, work began on a new UNWLA website, and I actively participated as a member of the Website Committee. The new website was launched in March 2009. I participated in each of the numerous conference calls, offering ideas and suggestions. At the start of the project, these conference calls were held weekly; later, when website management was taken over by Zoriana Haftkowycz, her skillful management made fewer conferences possible. Today, the website is thriving, but we need more contributors to submit news and information about events hosted by branches, Regional Councils, and communities. We now have the opportunity and means to inform the world about our organization and its work, but we have not yet used it to its full potential. Eva Stashkiw Fund Eva Stashkiw, a humble and generous woman, was proud of her membership in the UNWLA— first in the Detroit Regional Council and later in Florida. She bequeathed her life savings to the UNWLA, with an aim to support Ukrainian studies. As the UNWLA First Vice President, I chaired the committee that administers the Eva Stashkiw Fund. At the UNWLA National Board meeting, that took place at Soyuzivka in October, 2009, we awarded a scholarship for “further work on The Manual for Teachers of Ukrainian Svitlychkas ” from this fund. Every year the information about this fund is published in Our Life, with detailed requirements for individuals interested in applying for grants supported by the fund.
