been a beloved event for the children of our community. In fact, most of our members remember going to this dance themselves and were thrilled to be involved in keeping this wonderful tradition alive for their own children. The Children’s Embroidery Dance is a joyful event in which the children perform plays, sing and dance to Ukrainian music, and parade in a display of their fine embroidery. For the past two years, our Branch has had the honor of co-hosting this event with UNWLA Branch 76. This Branch has hosted the Children’s Embroidery Dance themselves for many decades. With their leadership, our members had the opportunity to promote Ukrainian cultural heritage to our children and also to work together and learn greatly from the vast experience of these wonderful and fascinating women. In addition to the Children’s Embroidery Dance, our members have also been involved in other UNWLA Detroit Regional activities which include bake sales, Christmas caroling, and serving Thanks giving dinner to the elderly living at the Ukrainian Village, a home for the elderly in our community. During our monthly meetings, we often try to incorporate information about Ukrainian culture. Our members have enjoyed discussions of holiday traditions and instruction in preparing traditional Ukrainian dishes. The kutya competition was a great hit this past Christmas season! Some of our members have also visited the Ukrainian Museum and were extremely impressed by the wonderful Mazepa exhibit. We are proud that our museum is committed to acquiring, preserving, and exhibiting articles of artistic and historic significance to the rich cultural heritage of all Ukrainians. As we move forward, our young branch hopes to further define its purpose, embark on charitable endeavors, and continue to work together fostering and promoting our Ukrainian cultural heritage for many years to come.
