Branch 132 was established in the summer of 2009 and is the newest and youngest branch in the Detroit Regional Council. Our group is currently comprised of 15 talented young professionals and mothers who are active in both the local Ukrainian and American communities. We came together with the objective of retaining our Ukrainian cultural heritage and providing enriching activities, both social and charitable, for the benefit of our children, families, and the Ukrainian community. Our membership is unique in that it is not only comprised of women of Ukrainian descent but also of American women whose spouses are Ukrainian. These are women who genuinely want to be involved in the community and advance their knowledge of Ukrainian culture. The christening of Branch 132 took place in September 2009. Each founding member was sponsored by her mother, mother-in-law or other close family member, who are active in various branches of the Detroit Regional Council. There was definitely “a passing of the baton” to a new generation of Ukrainian women in the UNWLA. Our first president was Natalia Lypeckyj-Tarnavsky, under whose guidance our young branch took its first steps to organize and begin its work. In 2010, she was joined by co-president, Lara Daniv-Zarewych, who has since taken over full responsibility as president. Together, these two women have guided this new branch on its journey and provide leadership and inspiration as we continue to define our mission and find our collective passion. Branch 132 has been involved in several activities, but our biggest achievement to date has been co-hosting the Children’s Embroidery Dance for the Ukrainian community in Detroit.
