UNWLA BRANCH 124, ST. PETERSBURG, FL BRANCH-AT-LARGE The Ukrainian National Women's League of America, Branch 124, in St. Petersburg, Florida, was founded in 2000. The first president of this branch was Luba Mycyk, who served in this capacity until May 16, 2010, when Olya Czerkas was elected into office. The members of Branch 124 are involved in many Ukrainian community activities. These activities range from organizing cultural events and plays to hosting festive dances and banquets. Women from Branch 124 have also taken part in various American community functions through SPIFF's (St. Petersburg International Folk Festival) and other cultural events throughout the years. The 10-year anniversary of Branch 124 was celebrated on October 17, 2010, at Epiphany o f our Lord Ukrainian Catholic Church. The Ukrainian community of St. Petersburg, along with many visitors from Canada, Michigan, Ohio, New Jersey, and Branch 56 of North Port, Florida, joined us in com memorating this this momentous occasion. The godmother of our branch, Mrs. Maria Nawarynskyj, honored us by attending the anniversary celebration and spoke about how our branch was formed. Mrs. Orysia Zinycz, Liaison for Branches-at-Large, represented the UNWLA Executive Committee. She outlined the goals of the UNWLA and read a congratulatory letter from UNWLA President Marianna Zajac. The women work diligently in the community and also enjoy the friendly and warm social events that take place in St. Petersburg. This year our Christmas season began with a Christmas social held at Olya Czerkas’ home. The season ended with women of our branch caroling for members of the community and visiting the sick and homebound. We look forward to working together at the many exciting upcoming events in the next three years. Olya N. Czerkas, President XXIXКонвенція СУА 259 www.unwla.org
