Bazaar. Branch 118 was able to make the above mentioned contributions through the proceeds of the annual Ukrainian Easter Bazaar which was co-sponsored with Protection of the Mother of God (Pokrova) Ukrainian Catholic Church of Houston. We joined forces with the Pokrova parishioners in 2010 to accommodate our expanding festival which was a big success. Our Ecology Project was brought to fruition, with the donation of several oak trees to the Protection of the Mother of God Ukrainian Catholic Church grounds, whose trees were devastated during Hurricane Ike. An article about this project was featured in the April 2010 issue of Our Life magazine. Under the chairmanship of Olha Seniw, the annual Autumn Masquerade, held on October 30, was a fabulous success. The theme for the event was “ Wild, Wild, West” and included a pyrohy eating contest and pumpkin carving contest. In the December 2010 issue of the Our Life magazine, you w ill find an article detailing Autumn Masquerade, and a second article, lauding our young members who are working and performing with the Zhuravli Ukrainian Dancers of Houston. In addition to the annual Ukrainian Easter Bazaar, Branch 118 took part in the annual Sts. Cyril & Methodius Slavic Heritage Festival and the 2010 Ukrainian Winter Crafts and Bake Sale with the sale of our cookbooks and inventory items. Determined to instill a theme of “ exploration” into our 2010 projects, Branch President Martha Noukas chose three new locations for the members to meet and socialize. On March 8, Branch 118 members celebrated the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day, by getting together for appetizers and refreshments at the newly remodeled ZaZa Hotel in Houston. In May, Mrs. Noukas organized a movie viewing of the film The English Surgeon at the Houstonian Health Club and Spa. After the movie, members lingered to discuss the movie content and health issues. In December, Martha Noukas organized the branch Christmas party, which was held at the Wine Tasting Room in Houston; the ladies attending enjoyed gourmet appetizers and sampled three types of wine. We spent the evening sharing stories about our recent travels and exchanged Christmas ornaments. A ll in all, it was a very good year! OUR BEST WISHES FOR A SUCCESSFUL CONVENTION!
