Branch 98 continues to support the goals and objectives of the UNWLA, Inc. Our members have demonstrated this commitment in a number of ways. The February 2008 issue of Our Life magazine was devoted to honoring the 40th anniversary of the UNWLA Scholarship/ Children-Student Sponsorship Program (1967-2007); its cover featured photos of three of our members, Anna Krawczuk, Luba Bilowchtchuk, and Maria Polanskyj. Each member has served as National Chair of the UNWLA Scholarship Standing Committee for a cumulative total of thirty years. Two other members, M. Orysia Jacus, as Treasurer for twenty years, and Victoria Mischenko, as Office Administrator, have lent their volunteer services to this worthwhile program as well. We are proud of their selfless efforts and hard work that were publicly acknowledged and most importantly that continue to benefit so many needy students in the Ukrainian Diaspora. In further support, our Branch continues to sponsor students, as do many of our members and friends. Branch 98 donated $1000.00 to this program in 2008 and raised $27,220.00 for a total of 130 stipends over the three-year period covered by this report. Although we continue to be a small branch, our membership grew to include four new members: Luba Zubyk, Yaroslawa Kochman, Maria Ilczenko, and Nadia Jaworiw. We are grateful for their participation in all of our endeavors. Members continued fundraising that year to provide assistance for the flood victims in Western Ukraine. Our small branch was able to collect $3575.00 solely through a mail campaign and the generosity of many supporters. We conducted other fundraising efforts during the year to support the Branch’s work by selling tickets for a retail store event, having a picnic, Christmas party, and gift- wrapping at a local Barnes & Noble bookstore. Branch 98 was well represented at the XXVIII Convention in Detroit, Michigan in May 2008. President Victoria Mischenko, Treasurer, M. Orysia Jacus and Luba Bilowchtchuk were delegates, while Anna Krawczuk and Maria Polanskyj attended as members of the National Board. These events were recounted in an article penned by the Branch Secretary in the April 2008 issue of Our Life. The year 2009 began with the annual meeting and election of officers. Continuing on for another two- year term were the President, Victoria Mischenko, Treasurer, M. Orysia Jacus, Secretary, Irene Krawczuk, and Scholarship Chair, Luba Bilowchtchuk.
