5. Every other month throughout the year, we host an afternoon coffee hour for the elderly residents of Shevchenko Manor Home and their guests. We provide the refreshments and manpower at these events, which include speakers and/or films of interest. 6. Branch 12 hosted a Fashion Show Luncheon and Fundraiser on October 11, 2009. This event raised $3,016.27 for UNWLA projects. 7. The profit from our annual end-of-the-year Bazaar and Bake Sale, usually held in December, is also used for UNWLA causes. Some other events and celebrations: 1. All of our members participated in the Commemoration of the Holodomor. 2. On September 19, 2009, our members took part in the dedication of the “Ukrainian Village” in the city of Parma, Ohio. 3. Each year, a variety of field trips and celebrations bond our members into a close-knit “sisterhood.” We go on numerous field trip, e.g. art museums, films, community choir com petitions, etc., as well as get together for birthday celebrations. 4. In April, 2010, our branch participated in “Culture Shock 101,” a collaborative event sponsored by the Parma City School District and Cuyahoga Community College. We put on a spectacular display of Ukrainian art, embroidery, books, pysanky, pottery and costumes. Visitors to the booth remarked on the fact that our display was a real show stopper. 5. In the month of July, 2010, our members gathered 19-1/2 pages of signatures for UNWLA headquarters in protest of human rights infarctions in Ukraine. 6. On October 2, 2010, we hosted an evening with Dr. Myroslava Mudrak, who discussed her newest book, “Beyond Borders, Modern Ukrainian Book Design.” A reception with zakusky followed the discussion. It was a very successful event, held in our own domivka, with over 85 people attending. 7. Our members participated in the 63rd “One World Day” at the statue of Lesya Ukrainka held in the Cultural Gardens of Cleveland. 8. Our branch conducts monthly meetings, with executive meetings held as needed. Two members of our branch participate and represent UNWLA at UZO meetings; and we are regular supporters of the Ukrainian Art Museum in New York. 9. Branch 12 holds 10 chairs on the Regional Council Board of Ohio and attends all meetings regularly. 10. We ended this year with the Commemoration of UNWLA’s 85th Anniversary on November 21, 2010 given by the Ohio Okruha. Our branch was responsible for providing the canapes, pastries and coffee for the reception, as well as the decoration of the venue, printing the tickets, advertisements, program and clean-up after the program. One of the challenges ahead of us is the retention of our present membership while attracting younger members to UNWLA. Great caution must be taken to avoid the danger of overextending our present members, particularly those members who have served us since 1967, day after day, decade after decade.
