UNWLA BRANCH 12, PATRONESS OLENA PTCHILKA, CLEVELAND, OHIO REGIONAL COUNCIL OHIO 85th Commemoration of UNWLA. UNWLA Branch 12 was founded on February 19, 1967, at which time the membership selected Olena Ptchilka as their patroness. In 2008, the membership rested at 26 members under elected Presidents Halya Pohlid (Jan.-June) and Olya Pohlid (July-Dee.). In the past 2 years, elected President Natalie Simms (2009 & 2010) brought the membership up to a total of 32 members. With 6 new members and one long-time member passing - Neonila Wynarsky passed away on November 24, 2010, at the age of 86 - our members are always working to recruit new members. The membership of the 12th Branch consists of women who are inspired, motivated and dedicated to the mission and activities of UNWLA. Their loyalty and hard work are exemplary in our Ukrainian community. During the past three years we have hosted a variety of projects and fundraisers. The following projects reflect our energetic efforts and leadership in providing aid to our brothers and sisters in Ukraine, as well as locally. 1. Attic Treasures Sale, which is held in the spring of each year and is combined with an Easter Bake Sale. This event earns us $900 to $1,200 each year. 2. Annual Ukrainian Independence Day Collection. Each year the members get together and make 600-800 boutonnieres, which are distributed to churchgoers at all the local Ukrainian churches, where branch members collect donations for UNWLA projects. 3. Social Welfare sent 13 large packages to Ukraine in the past 3 years. 4. Each year, we hold our annual Branch 12 members’ Summer Picnic and in December a Christmas Party.
