Currently, there are 325 Members in 11 Branches, located across eight (8) states The Branches-at-Large operate outside the major Ukrainian-American communities. However, the members work with our Headquarters to support the purpose, objectives, and key initiatives of the UNWLA: to preserve national identity and culture; to inform and advise the local American communities about Ukraine; to offer financial assistance both locally and abroad; and to support The Ukrainian Museum. Some examples of these are: No. 3 - Scottsdale, AZ, Christina Boyko, President, 19 Members • UNWLA Scholarship Project is the chief goal among the members. • The Branch sponsors many activities for the community and provides a venue for interaction. No. 14 - Atlanta, GA, Kathy Tice, President, 8 Members • The Branch plays a very important role in Atlanta by informing the Atlanta community about Ukraine and its arts, and providing information about Ukrainians at both the “International Council Visitors Association” and “The International Association of Georgia”. No. 17, Miami, FL, Irena Rakush, President, 23 Members • Members sponsor cultural events and teach Ukrainian traditions. • Support Orphans & Babusi in Ukraine. No. 27, Pittsburgh, PA, Maria Zaliszczuk, President, 18 Members • Social Welfare - Since 2008 they have donated $5,797 to UNWLA Social Welfare. • Ukrainian culture - display at University of Pittsburgh had over 3000 attendees. No. 38, Denver, CO, Inya Saldyt, President, 25 Members • Members donated funds to The Scholarship Fund and flood victims in Ukraine. • Members are working to publish a book about their families’ histories before they immigrated to the USA. • Held a full day workshop for teachers and the Denver community on “Politics of Food: Past & Present” at the University of Denver, to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the HOLO DOMOR. Invited five (5) distinguished scholars who spoke at the event. No. 56, North Port, FL, Oksana Lew, President, 96 Members • Members promote Ukrainian culture among non-Ukrainians and lecture about the Holodomor at the local high school; donate books about Ukraine to high schools. • Branch Members donated over $25,000 to Flood victims, Scholarship Fund; “OUR LIFE” Press Fund and to The Ukrainian Museum in New York. No. 78, Washington, DC, Motria Sloniewsky, President, 44 Members • Branch sponsors a “Svitlychka” for over 20 children. • Branch contributed over $5,000 to various UNWLA initiatives. No. 107, San Jose, CA, Irene Sugano, President, 23 Members • The members are interested in helping others, thus they hold fundraisers like the annual picnic and annual Christmas gathering. These raise funds for the Social Welfare fund, sending packages to “babusiw” in Ukraine, and supporting the Brazil Scholarship Fund. No. Ill, Los Angeles, CA, Ludmila Wussek, President, 27 Members • Branch is very active in Social Services: visits ladies in nursing homes, assists members during crises, and sends packages to Ukraine; donated $3,000 for Flood victims in Ukraine. • Members donated $4,655 toward the production of the movie “Holodomor: Ukraine’s Genocide”. • Members publish articles in local newspapers about Ukrainian activities.
