A lot of my time during the year is spent writing, e-mailing, and telephoning individual members about their arrears in dues, unreported changes in addresses, unreported transfers to branches, and addressing any questions they may have. I also thank all those who support us in any way they are able to do so. There are also members who resign, join branches, or pass away. Even in this fast electronic communication age that we live in, not all the changes are reported to the UNWLA Headquarters and/or passed on to me. In February 2010 the UNWLA Executive Board of UNWLA hired Olya Stasiuk as office administrator for the UNWLA Headquarters in New York City. Olya Stasiuk, with whom I spend a lot of time corresponding by e-mail on all the above mentioned problems, has joined the ranks of Members-at- Large. There were initially some discrepancies between the UNWLA office records and mine, but after exchanging over 100 e-mails, Ms. Stasiuk and I cleared up most of the Members-at-Large problems, and the updating of Members-at-Large records now goes more smoothly. Also in February, the VP for Membership, Nusha Macielinski, formed a Policies and Procedure committee, of which I am a member, because I feel very strongly about having smooth transfers, closings of chapters, etc. In the atmosphere of civility, transparency and cooperation, one phase of this undertaking was completed. The committee hopes that in the future we will have fewer delays in connecting with our members. It is very convenient that Nusha Macielinski can come to Florida and work with us here. A very fortuitous situation also occurred in Philadelphia, where Branch 10 and 27 had membership problems. During the tenure of Regional Council President Christine Chomyn-Izak these problems were solved. The Philadelphia Regional Council now has a new Branch 10 and Members-at- Large have gained nine new members. An excellent solution was arrived at, whereby a branch was not dissolved and some members opted to become MALs. In June 2010 I sent welcome letters to four members formerly of Branch 28 of New Jersey who became Members-at-Large. In July 2010 I visited Dickinson, North Dakota. The main reason was to attend the 25th anniversary of Dickinson’s Ukrainian Cultural Institute at which a symposium on Chornobyl took place. While there, I left some UNWLA brochures at the Institute. There is some interest among Dickinson’s women in joining UNWLA. In November 2010, dues notices and circulars were sent out to Members-at-Large to emphasize the importance of their attendance at the XXIX Convention. As of January 2011 we have 192 Members-at-Large. Many of them contribute to our organization with their respective talents. Tree Members-at-Large serve on the National Board. We have also had seven MALs who contributed their art to beautify the covers of issues of Our Life. We have three MALs that have written reviews of books for Our Life. A large number of MALs contribute to different UNWLA funds, but most of them give to the Our Life Press Fund (nearly $1,000 every year). I try to introduce the new members to others UNWLA members as soon as possible, depending on their wishes. Some are posted in Our Life. To other new MALs, I write letters and send brochures about the UNWLA. I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to Marianna Zajac, Nusha Macielinski, and Roma Shuhan for their leadership and understanding. Also I wish to thank Olya Stasiuk for her dedicated and professional support. 144 XXIX Конвенція СУА www.unwla.org
