A meeting of the UNWLA Scholarship Committee was held on October 23, 2010, with UNWLA President Marianna Zajac attending. An essential matter regarding scholarships to Ukraine was discussed. Due to the continuing economic crisis in Ukraine, Maria Polanskyj, Chairwoman of the Scholarship Committee, proposed increasing the number of scholarships awarded to students in Ukraine, as well as increasing the current dollar amounts of the scholarships. This proposal was approved by the UNWLA Executive Committee and went into effect beginning with the 2010-2011 academic year. All sponsors were informed of the increase and, with very few exceptions, continue to offer support to students with academic and financial challenges. It is with great pleasure that we acknowledge our most generous and thoughtful sponsors and benefactors who contributed to the success of our program over the past 44 years. Your concern and understanding has opened numerous doors and fulfilled many dreams of the UNWLA Scholarship Program’s alumni. We are also extremely grateful to UNWLA Branches, Regional Councils, individual members, and Members-at-Large for their wholehearted support of our quest to help create opportunities for brighter futures for needy children and students in Ukrainian diaspora and in Ukraine. We look forward to your continued involvement in our program in years to come. THANK YOU ALL! We work very closely with Ukrainian National Women’s League of Ukraine (Soyuz Ukrainok of Ukraine) Scholarship Committee, currently under the direction of Alla Debeliuk. This committee is responsible for approving eligible students for scholarships recommended by SUU Regional Council presidents of all regions (oblasts) in Ukraine. We also have other trustworthy contacts in Ukraine, who are familiar with our program and requirements. These honest, dependable professionals not only recommend students who meet the necessary criteria, but are also responsible for making sure that these students fulfill their obligations to the UNWLA and to their sponsors. From on the onset of our program in 1967, we have maintained numerous reliable contacts in South America. The objective of the Colegio Santa Olga boarding school for girls is to educate young girls and women of Ukrainian descent and to instill in them the value of their Ukrainian cultural heritage: language, traditions, religion, etc. Many graduates of the Colegio are now leaders in Ukrainian-Brazilian communities. The current Director of the Institute and Colegio Santa Olga in Prudentopolis, Parana, Brazil, Filomena Procek, is an alumna of the UNWLA Scholarship Program. Magdalena Lozovei, who completed her studies in Ukrainian language, was also a former scholarship reci pient. Both women are now outstanding professionals in their chosen careers, and we are very fortunate to have them recommend students for scholarships. Last year, we had a wonderful, memorable meeting with these two suc cessful women from Brazil at the Scholarship office in Matawan, New Jersey. During the past three years, we also had the honor of welcoming the following guests to the UNWLA Scholarship office in Matawan: Marianna Zajac, UNWLA President; Olha Lukiw, President, NJ Regional Council; Irena Steckiw, member of the Executive Committee; Oleh Sawkiw, CPA, who audits the UNWLA Scholarship Program’s books on a yearly basis and prepares a Certified Financial Statement forUNWLA Inc. We are grateful to Very Rev. Dionisio Lachovicz, OSBM, for keeping us in his heart and mind. We also had several guests from Ukraine—Rev. Chaplain Stepan Sus from Lviv and Ella Lamach from Kyiv, among others. 132 XXIXКонвенція СУА Seatedfrom left: Filomena Procek, Rev. Romaniuk, Maria Polanskyj, Anna Krawczuk. Standing: M.
