DARIA DROZDOVSKA, CORRESPONDING SECRETARY Invited to join the Executive Committee by UNWLA President Marianna Zajac, I accepted the position of the Corresponding Secretary and started my work in this capacity in December 2008. On December 12, 2008,1 attended my first meeting of the UNWLA Executive Committee. Since then, I have participated in the monthly meetings of the Executive Committee and in two annual meetings of the National Board (2009 and 2010). As Corresponding Secretary I wrote letters replying to various requests, thank you letters, letters of condolence, greetings, and holiday cards to numerous organizations and institutions in the United States and Ukraine; I was also available to perform other tasks and duties assigned by the UNWLA’s president or vice presidents. I worked closely with Iwanna Shkarupa, president of the Ohio Regional Council, on issues related to the humanitarian aid in Chernivtsi; on matters related to the 85th anniversary of the UNWLA; on membership recruitment and retention; and on strategic planning for the future development of the Regional Council and its work. In August 2 0 0 9 ,1 attended the annual WFUWO and WCU conventions that took place in Lviv, Ukraine; in October 2009,1 participated in the celebration of the 45th anniversary of Branch 83. I attended the openings of various exhibits in the Ukrainian Museum in New York and also attended the Museum’s art projects, film screenings, and the celebration of the 19th anniversary of the independence of Ukraine. I was invited to be a recording secretary for the annual Board meeting of the Ukrainian Museum. I participated in commemorative events marking the tragic anniversaries of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 and the Chornobyl nuclear disaster. On the invitation from Liudmyla Hrabovska, president of UNWLA Branch 125, I attended the branch-sponsored charity ball, which was part of the branch’s 10th anniversary celebrations. All the proceedings from the ball went for the treatment of women in the Deliatyn psychiatric hospital in Ukraine’s Ivano-Frankivsk oblast. On October 10, 2010,1 attended the UNWLA’s 85th anniversary celebration, which took place in the Ukrainian Museum in New York. I accompanied Prof. Borysenko (our invited guest from Ukraine), who authored a book about the Holodomor, to a meeting-interview. I am grateful to UNWLA President Marianna Zajac and to all the members of the Executive Committee for their supportive and friendly assistance, and to Olya Stasiuk, UNWLA office administrator, for providing all the requested information. My congratulations to the leaders and members of the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America on the occasion of the XXIX Convention!
