members of UNWLA. April 2, 1995 will be dedicated to honor the memory of departed members of UNWLA with religious observan ces. The 24th Convention will be held in Philadelphia. 11/12/94 — Meeting of the Executive Committee. Noted: New York Regional Coun cil and Our Life premises will have to be vacated due to the fact that Self Reliance Credit Union needs to expand its offices. UNWLA sent a letter dated 10/25/94 to the president of CBS concerning the defamation of Ukrainians on the program 60 Minutes. UNWLA parliamentarian Olha N.M. Rybakoff was part of a group of lawyers who moni tored this matter, and served as a represen tative of UNWLA in the group. The selection of an architect for the rebuilding project of The Ukrainian Museum was discussed and various propositions were put forth. Plans were made for the planned two-day meeting of the presidents of Regional Councils, for the celebration of United Nation’s 50th anni versary and UNWLA’s 70th birthday. The WFUWO’s annual meeting was held on Octo ber 29-31, with thirty three delegates from eight countries, among them delegates from UNWLA. In December, during the traditional Christmas tree lighting sponsored by New York’s Regional Council, members of the Executive Committee will present longtime past editor of Our Life Ulana Starosolska with a commendation letter and a medal commemorating the independence of Ukra ine, honoring her for her service to the organi zation. 1/21/95 — Executive Committee Meet ing. Noted: The Committee approved Jaros lava Rubel to the post of press chair, and her first and foremost duty is the publication of the 24th Convention book. 2/11/95 — Executive Committee Meet ing. Noted: Self Reliance Credit Union gave notice to UNWLA to vacate part of its pre mises by March 31. It was decided that New York’s Regional Council will now occupy the room previously used as UNWLA’s Head quarters. Plans were made to search for office space in the vicinity. 3/11/95 — Executive Committee Meet ing. Noted: A letter from the World Council of Social Services under the auspices of the UWC, informs that the organization plans to open Social Welfare offices in various cities of Ukraine. A fund raiser “A Dollar for Ukraine” was approved by UWC. UNWLA’s By-Laws do not alllow its Branches to raise funds for another organization, therefore it was decided that UNWLA will remain with its sister-cities. Self Reliance Credit Union offered UNWLA the use of premises on the fifth floor of their building and decision was made to accept this offer. Hotel Radisson in Bucks County, Pa., in the suburb of Philadelphia was chosen as the site for the 24th Conven tion. Taissa Turiansky was appointed coor dinator between the Executive Committee and the Convention Committee. On March 31 a Seminar, under the direc tion of Iryna Kurowyckyj, President of the NCW/US, was held marking the 50th anni versary of the United Nations and the 108th birthday of the National Council of Women of the United States. Nineteen members from UNWLA’s National Board and other interested members of the organization, as well as re presentatives from many American women’s groups and diplomats of UN member-nations participated in the Seminar and luncheon. March 31 and April 1 — In the afternoon of March 31st, following the program at the UN, a conference of the presidents of Re gional Councils and members of the UNWLA National Board was opened by President Anna Krawczuk. In preparation for the 24th Convention the followingn reported: Oxana Farion, President of the Philadelphia Regional Council; Maria Kondrat, President and Chry- styna Izak, Vice-President of the Convention Committee and Jaroslava Rubel, Press Chair. A Nominating Committee was formed and held its first meeting. Chairs on the National Board discussed the various means of re presenting their interests at the Convention. The sale of infants from founding homes in Ukraine was a very disturbing topic which necessitated the writing of letters from UWNLA to religious leaders, major publica tions and women’s organizations in Ukraine. 4/12/95. Meeting of the Executive Com mittee. Noted: The organization of a new Regional Council in Washington, D.C. was discussed. Marta Bohachevskky-Chomiak’s book, “Bilym po bilomu”, a translation into Ukrainian of “Feminists Despite Themselves” is ready for publication by Lybid’ Publishers in Kyiv, Ukraine. A printing of 5,000 copies is anticipated at a cost of over $10,000, to be paid from UNWLA Publishing Fund. 5/24/95. Executive Commmittee Meeting.
