Krawczuk reported on the Conference “Ukra inian Women and Democracy,” sponsored jointly by Soyuz Ukrainok of Ukraine and the World Federation of Ukrainian Women’s Or ganizations and held on July 6-12, 1993 in Kyiv. A. Krawczuk spoke on the topic “The Ukrainian Woman and Leisure Time in the U.S.A.” 8/12/93 — Executive Committee Meet ing. Noted: Philadelphia, New Jersey and Chicago Regional Councils will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Our Life. The related activities will insure an increase in donations to the Our Life publication’s fund. Public Relations Chair, Iryna Kurowyckyj informed that 1994 has been designated as the “Year of the Family” by the United Nations. Social Welfare Chair, Lidia Czernyk named members of the Committee — Olha Hnatyk, Nadia Oransky, Anna Rak and Anna Krawczuk; Luba Bilowchtchuk named members of the Scho larship Program Committee — Orysia Jacus, Treasurer, Odarka Polanskyj-Stokert and Na dia Nynka. Journalist Halyna Kuzyshyn will assume the post of the English language edi tor of Our Life in October 1993. The account ing of the Social Welfare will be independent of the Head Office, Anna Rak is designated as UNWLA Social Welfare Treasurer. 9/11/93 — Executive Committee Meet ing. Noted: There are 10 Branches-at-Large of the UNWLA, which do not belong to any Regional Council. Maria Navarynsky (mem ber of Branch 56 in Florida) accepted the nomination and was confirmed as a Liasion for Branches-at-Large, with the privilege of attending the National Board Meetings, but without voting power. Fourth Vice-President of UNWLA, Iryna Kurowyckyj, was elected President of the National Council of Women of the United States (a two-year term), mak ing this the first time that a Ukrainian woman has held this post since the organization was founded by Susan B. Anthony in 1890. Maria Tomorug was elected Treasurer of NCW/USA. Second Vice-President Natalia Danylenko pro posed that a video about the work of UNWLA be made. On 9/26/93 President Anna Krawczuk and Vice-President Olga Trytyak represented UNWLA at the 100th and 60th anniversary celebration respectively, of the Ukrainian language daily newspaper Svoboda and the English language weekly, The Ukrainian Weekly. Citations were presented to both editors. Irena Chaban represented Our Life at this event. 10/2/93 — Executive Committee Meet ing. Noted: Attorney Olha N.M. Rybakoff, member of Branch 54, agreed to become UNWLA’s parliamentarian. Financial Secretary Taissa Turiansky informed that a meeting concerning the review of UNWLA’s funds had been held. Public Relations Chair Iryna Kurowyckyj formed two committees — one in New York, with members Yarema A. Ba- chynsky, Yaryna Ferencevych and Taras Fe- rencevych, the other in Washington, D.C., with members Mortia Slonevsky, Marta Voye- vidka and Ksenia Kuzmych. Education Chair Oka Hrycak named members of the Educa tion Committee — Dr. Ivan Holovinsky, Irena Demkiv, Oksana Kujbida-Stanko, Dr. Teodo- zij Samotulka, Olga Trytyak. October 16-17, 1993. Annual meeting of the National Board was held at the Newark Airport Marriott Hotel in New Jersey. The Recommendations Committee members: Ole- na Bobylak, Oxana Farion, Iryna Hladky, Ma ria Kramarchuk, and Ivanna Shkarupa. Chair of the Auditing Committee Dr. Joanna Ratych expressed commendations and appreciation for work well done. A preliminary budget for 1994 was app roved. Noted: the organization must put its own “house” in order first, continue its en deavors, care for its members, support Our Life to insure its future. Submitted plans of the following chairs were approved: mem bership, cultural affairs, public relations, mem- bers-at-large, art and museum, education, social welfare, scholarship, press, as well as the proposed agenda of the first vice-presi- dent. Presidents of Regional Councils pres ented their reports. The Vice-Chair of the Convention Committee, Luba Bilowchtchuk, reported on the 23rd UNWLA Convention. Anna Krawczuk and Lidia Czernyk ex plained that the purchase of an MRI (Mag netic Resonance Imaging) medical equipment for a hospital in Ukraine will represent a sizeable expenditure from UNWLA. The Chil dren of Chornobyl Relief Fund will take care of transportation. At a meeting with the re presentatives of the CCRF, a committee for this project was formed. Branches of UNWLA will be asked to collect funds for the project “UNWLA Chornobyl Fund” to cover UNWLA’s share of the cost for the MRI.
