cial delegates. All the presidents of these organizations were invited to the anniversary celebration. I was therefore invited as Presi dent of the NCW-USA. At the banquet we were called forward and presented with an enlarged copy of the signatures on the origi nal charter signed fifty years ago. My photo was the only one appearing in the news paper. This was my last appearance as the President of the NCW-USA. d. The International Hospitality Committee The International Hospitality Committee, an arm of the NCW-USA, began its work in 1948, when the UN was relocated to New York. At that time, Mary Dushnyk served on the committee. I joined the group in 1983 and prepared a wide array of programs about Ukrainian neighborhood in New York. The participants in the committee programs are the wives of the diplomatic corps. During this past term, our guests included Ms. L. Hudyma, wife of the assistant to the per manent representative of Ukraine to the Uni ted Nations and Ms. L. Kryshianivskiy, wife of the Consul General of Ukraine in New York. On May 16, 1994, Ms. Kryshianivskiy worked with me in preparing a program in the new Consulate building. The program on Ukrainian Easter traditions was conducted by Ms. Wolynec. The second portion of the program consisted of tours of the building and its grounds, located in the famous Tur tle Bay section of New York. The Ukrainian television show ’’Kontakt” aired this program. On May 5, 1995 the International Hospi tality Committee of California, an NCW-USA committee, sponsored a luncheon honoring attorney Gloria Allred for her work for women. As President of the NCW-USA, I was the honorary guest at the celebration and ad dressed the gathering. Only one member of the UNWLA was present. I. THE UNITED NATIONS I continue to represent the UNWLA and WFUWO in the World Movement of Mothers, which is an NGO at the UN. As such, I am a member of the Family Committee, The Com mission on the Status of Women, and UNI CEF. I participate in weekly briefings for the NGOs where important and necessary infor mation regarding the UN is disseminated. Each year in September, the Department of Public Information organizes a conference. I participated in three such conferences in 1993, 1994, and 1995. I also participated in the preparation of the conferences and in the caucus of the NGOs. In 1993, I was a member of the Nominating Committee for the Family Committee. March 12 to March 20, 1995 in Copen hagen. The UN conducted a conference on the issue of “Social Development,” concen trating on poverty and unemployment. At this conference, I represented the WFUWO, the World Movement of Mothers and the NCW-USA. March 8, 1995 As President of the NCW- USA, along with the presidents of other national councils, I participated in a panel on the topic ’’Women and Social Development: the Main Role of the Councils and Interna tional Cooperation.” I met with the NGO delegation ’’Women’s Society” which attended the conference. I also met with two non governmental delegates from the Association of Medical Students from Ukraine. In addi tion, during the East-West Caucus, I spoke in defense of the Central and East European countries, especially Ukraine. Oksana Kutc of Kyiv and Luba Palyvoda were active NGO delegates at this conference. A story written by Oksana Kutc about the conference ap peared in Svoboda in March of 1995. My report of the event appeared in the Ukrainian Weekly on March 26, 1995. March 15 to March 25, 1995. UNWLA President Anna Krawchuk and I participated in the 4th World Conference on Women and Forum in Beijing. The Ukrainian Weekly, Svoboda, and Ukrainians in the World all reported on these appearances. The Public Relations Representatives of the UNWLA regional councils sent me reports of their work, which I eagerly read and used as sources of information in my work with American and international organization. I used the report on the “Family Panel” pre 71 www.unwla.org
