another such school was opened in Gorowo llawecko, near Gdansk. Many of the students under our care are earning degrees in Ukra inian philology, history and pedagogy, and Myroslaw Sycz, sponsored by Mrs. Luba Arty- myshyn, is a Ph.D. candidate at this time and is scheduled to complete his studies in May 1996. From Bosnia (formerly part of Yugosla via) many young men completed their stu dies at seminaries in Rome; some became priests. Father Roman Planchak, whose spon sors were Alex and Iwanna Czajka (Branch 33), was one of the first to be sent to Ukraine in 1990. It is the church and the devoted clergy that helped in preserving Ukrainian identity. They are faced with extreme hard ships at this time of war and unrest there. Many fled to Croatia or sent their children to other countries, including Ukraine. Our fi nancial and moral support is essential at this crucial time. A special UNWLA Scholarship Fund has been set up to help students from Bosnia, Romania, Ukraine and other Eastern European countries. All contributions to the special fund are tax deductible in the USA. Our tax exemt status is under IRS Code Sec tion 501 (c)(3), FID #23-6404061. From 1993-1995 a toal of 1,816 stipends in the amount of $443,143.22 were paid out to students in South America and Europe. This would not have been possible if not for UNWLA devoted Members, Branches and Re gional Councils who wholeheartedly suppor ted us, worked diligently and devoted many volunteer hours convincing people to spon sor a child or two. I extend my sincerest grati tude to all the sponsors and benefactors, for without your contributions we could not exist, without your contributions we would not have a scholarship fund and wihthout your under standing and love, needy Ukrainian children would not and could not achieve their goals in education. The success of our program belongs to many people in numerous coun tries throughout the world. May God Bless! На пост пресової референтки мене ко оптовано на засіданні Екзекутиви СУА 21 січня 1995 р. Перший раз взяла участь в засіданні Екзекутиви СУА в березні 1995 р. і з того дня офіційно почала працю. Це дуже короткий час, щоб можна похва литися будь-якими успіхами. У звітному часі брала участь у засі даннях Екзекутиви СУА; конференції голів окружних управ СУА (31 березня — 1 квітня 1995 р.) в Нью-Йорку; засіданні ГУ СУА (21—22 жовтня 1995 р.) в Голідей Інн, Нью-Джерзі, на якому очолила комісію ух вал; річних нарадах СФУЖО (27—29 жовт ня 1995 р.) в Торонто, Канада, була голо вою комісії ухвал; у зв’язку з приїздом Президента Л. Кучми, з рамени СУА була членом підготовчого комітету для влашту вання бенкету, який відбувся в Валдорф Асторія 23 жовтня 1995 p., і взяла участь в бенкеті; брала участь в Національній Раді Жінок США (6 листопада 1995). В журналі ’’Наше Життя” я інформувала про постанови й доручення зі засідань Головної Управи СУА і написала статті: ’’Відбулася конференція”, ’’Жінка Року- 1994”, ’’Річні наради Головної Управи СУА”. ЯРОСЛАВА РУБЕЛЬ, ПРЕСОВА РЕФЕРЕНТКА. Замовила такі статті для ’’Нашого Життя”: Н. Е. Sra Julia Tavares de Alvares, “Dreams and Aspiration of the United Nations — Fifty years and after”, Dr. I. Magun, “Answers you always wanted to know adout cholestorol”, “Osteoporosis — the silent disease”, “Another headache”. Вислала обіжник до пресових рефе ренток. За цей час одержала звіти від пре сових референток Огайо, Дітройту, Нью- Йорку, Північного Нью-Йорку. З приєм ністю треба ствердити, що пресові рефе рентки цілком вив’язуються із своїх зав дань. Статті про різні події, які відбу ваються на їхньому терені, поміщують у щоденнику ’’Свобода”, ’’Українському Тиж невику” і ’’Нашому Житті”. Варто було б зробити перелік тих статей, але з огляду на мою неповну каденцію, такий звіт не віддзеркалював би цілости. З уряду я є членом редакційної колегії ’’Нашого Жит тя”, на жаль, не була на жодних засіданнях редакційної колегії. Від грудня 1995 р. моя праця була зосереджена на збиранні матеріялів для видання ’’Пам’яткової книжки XXIV Конвен ції СУА”. 129 www.unwla.org
