“There is Strength in Unity.” President of UNWLA, Maria Savchak vi sited Ukraine from October 20-30,1990 where she took part in the second All Ukrainian Assembly of RUKH. The greeting which she delivered during the historic meeting was published in OUR LIFE in February, 1991. On October 26-28, 1990 the annual meeting of the Board of the World Federa tion of the Ukrainian Women’s Organizations (WFUWO), was held in Toronto, Canada. UNWLA’s delegates to the meeting were: Olha Hnateyko, representing the president of UNWLA, Chrystyna Navrocky and Ivanna Rozankowsky, who headed the WFUWO Sta tutory Commission. Chrystyna Navrocky was the head of the Resolutions Committee of the WFUWO. Members of UNWLA who were also on the Board of the WFUWO and took part in the meeting were: Olena Prociuk, Vice President of the WFUWO, Lidia Hladky, Public Relationos Chair of WFUWO, and Natalia Danylenko, Arts Chair of the WFUWO. The first post-convention meeting of UNWLA’s National Board was held on No vember 10-11, 1990. In an address to the Board, President Maria Savchak outined the scope of work for the current term. The budget was confirmed, as were plans of action proposed by the following chairs: Public Relations, Cultural Affairs, Education, Museum/Art, Scholarship, Welfare and Press. Natalia Hevko who headed the Convention Committee of the XXII Convention and Irena Czajkowskyj, head of the Convention Book Committee gave final reports of their activi ties. Both were commended for their good work. Also commended was UNWLA Branch 4 member Luba Sira, as were members of the Organizing Committee for the third woman’s conference “Ukrainian Woman in Two Worlds.” The presidents of the Regional Councils explained how their plans will put into action the resolutions of the XXII Con vention. The National Board decided to con tinue: A. to recognize branches of UNWLA dur ing a convention for fulfilling the four princi pal requirements of the By-Laws: 1. filing a correct and on time report by January 31 of each year 2. carrying out all financial responsibili ties of the branch and sending the moneys to UNWLA headquarters by end of April of each year. 3. 100% member subscription to OUR LIFE, and sending the moneys to UNWLA headquarters by end of April of each year. 4. branch membership in The Ukrainian Museum. B. to commend a branch for an unusual achievement. A branch cannot receive a commendation if it does not qualify for recognition. In matters of OUR LIFE it was decided to continue searching for page sponsors at a cost of $250 per page, in order to provide financial assistance to the magazine. Ivanna Ratych was elected to head the By-Laws Committee. On December 9, 1990 Maria Savchak represented the organization at a banquet honoring the 25th anniversary of the Ukrain ian Historical Society in New York City. At its December meeting the Board de cided to expand the Medical Fund for Child ren and Youth to “Medical Aid Fund for Children and Youth — Victims of Chornobil,” as well as enlarge the Welfare Fund and create a new fund to be called “UNWLA Fund for the Needy in Ukraine.” The Board voted to award a $2,000 sti pend from the Eva Stashkiv Fund to Virlana Tkach for the theatrical production of “A Light from the East.” A proposal to publish Senator Milena Rudnycky’s articles in book form was shelved due to lack of funds. The alternative, publishing the articles in OUR LIFE, was taken under consideration. Press Chair Chrystyna Navrocky proposed two in dividuals to the Press Committee: Olha Ru- densky and Maria Motyl. In January 1991 the Ukrainian commun ity in Chicago honored Anastasia Kharysh, President of the area’s UNWLA Regional Council and a long time UNWLA and Ukrain ian community activist. During the March Executive meeting the Board allotted $65,000 from UNWLA’s Medi cal Aid Fund for the Children of Chornobyl, to furnish an ICU (Intensive Care Unit) at the Medical and Research Center for the Victims of Chornobil, located in Lviv. UNWLA decided to purchase a machine for blood analysis “Technicon RA-1000” at a cost of $40,000. The Executive Board received the resigna tion of Iwanna Rozankowsky from the post as head of the WFUWO Statutory Com mission. Radio Free Europe had an interview with 45 www.unwla.org
