MARIA TOMORUG CORRESPONDING SECRETARY The XXII Convention of the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America was held from May 26-28, 1990 at the Radisson Plaza Hotel in Detroit, Michigan. Delegates to the Convention elected new members to the National Board, as well as UNWLA president Maria Savchak. The mem bers of the Executive Board were as follows: Dr. Ivanna Ratych — first Vice-President; Olha Hnateyko — Vice President and Organ izational Chair; Lidia Hladky — Vice Presi dent and Cultural Chair; Dr. Martha Boha- chevsky-Chomiak — Vice President and Public Relations Chair. Secretaries: Irena Czajkowskyj — recording; Maria Tomorug — corresponding; Rosalie Polche — English language. Treasurer: Roma Shuhan; Finan cial Secretary — Martha Danyluk. Members at Large — Irena Kurowyckyj and Lidia Bilo- rus. Chairs: Irena Russnak — Museum/Cul ture; Olha Trytyak — Education; Lidia Czer- nyk — Welfare; Anna Krawchuk — Scholar ship; Chrystyna Navrocky — Press. The following individuals became members of the Auditing Committee; Evhenia Novakivsky — President, Lidia Diachenko, Taissa Turian- sky; alternates: Nadia Bihun and Lidia Fica- lovych. During this term of office the Executive Board held 36 meetings, 25 all day meetings, one Conference of the Presidents of Regional Councils and three meetings of the National Board. The first post-Convention meeting of the Executive Board was held on June 24, 1990. The agenda called for the transfer of busi ness to the new Board, a retrospective dis cussion of the XXII Convention and other matters pertaining to the organization. Welfare Chair, Lidia Czernyk reported on her trip to Ukraine in May, 1990. Details of this report were published in OUR LIFE, June-July, 1990. It was decided to award $1,000 from the Welfare Fund to Irena Senyk as a thank you for her participation in the Convention. A committee was organized to deal with matters of the office of UNWLA. Members of the committee were: Ivanna Ra tych, Maria Tomorug, Marta Danyluk, Roma Shuhan and Maria Savchak ex officio. Dur ing this meeting Irena Chaban was confirmed as the editor of OUR LIFE. She assumed full responsibility for the magazine beginning with the July/August 1990 issue. At the following meeting of the Execu tive Board, Ivanna Ratych, Olha Hnateyko and Irena Czajkowskyj formed a committee to investigate the financial obligations of older members to the organization. This commit tee will submit its recommendations to the By-Laws Committee. It was decided to pres ent Ludmila Ivanchenko Ivanova with $500 from the Aid to Ukraine Fund. She will be working on a research project focusing on the Ukrainian immigration in the United States. President of UNWLA, Maria Savchak took part in the meeting of the Presidium of the Secretariat of the World Congress of Free Ukrainians (WCFU) in Toronto, Canada on July 27-28, 1990 and presented a full report to the Executive Board of UNWLA at its next meeting. At this time also the Board decided to become a partner with the Sabre Founda tion, which is a non-profit, tax-exempt, char itable organization. The work of the Founda tion involves the acquisition and transport of English language publications to countries in Eastern Europe; Lidia Bilous will be coor dinating the program “Books for Ukraine.” The Executive Board decided to reprint Ze- novia Terlecky’s cook book “Ukrainian Foods” in an edition of 5,000 copies. The price is $16.00. At the October 6, 1990 meeting Anna Krawchuk, Scholarship Chair informed the Board that she is planning to initiate a scho larship program for Ukraine and will con tinue the ongoing work in Eastern Europe — Poland, Yugoslavia, Rumania, and other coun tries. The third conference “Ukrainian Woman in Two Worlds” sponsored by UNWLA, at which about 200 young professional women participated, was held on October 12-14,1990 in Piscataway, NJ. Luba Sira, member of Branch 4, headed the Preparatory Commit tee, while Ivanna Ratych acted as a liaison to the Executive Board. Larysa Skoryk, People’s Deputy from Ukraine’s Parliament, was a guest at the conference and addressed the audience. The slogan of the conference was 44 www.unwla.org
